Denim Trends For Fall That Every Girl Can Rock

Denim trends rarely ever change. Denim jackets and a pair of perfectly-fitted jeans will always be in style. What changes is the time period. In the 1990s, carpenter jeans were popularized by the new genre of grunge, and baggy denim by Marky Mark. The next decade brought super low-rise flare jeans as seen on both Britney and Xtina, but customers never stopped looking for that perfect pair of jeans.

So now it’s 2019, and the denim trends are still a badass denim trucker jacket and a perfect pair of jeans. But what marks this year’s denim as special?

Wide Leg

You either love ’em or hate ’em. Wide-leg jeans are everywhere for the fall season and for good reason. All of us who were caught up in the era of the skinny jean know how uncomfortable and constricting those things are. Wide-leg jeans are both chicer than skinny jeans and more comfortable.

And they look great on all body types, as they highlight your best asset while giving you an hourglass figure. These jeans also give off the vibe of perpetual vacation; even when you’re on your lunch break, you’ll look like you just waltzed off the cruise ship docked in the bay.

Dad Jeans

Dad shoes, dad jokes and now, dad jeans. 2019 is all about the dads. And denim trends are no different. Dad jeans are similar to boyfriend jeans–slouchy, loose, relaxed. In fact, I’m not sure what the difference is except that maybe we’ve finally crushed the idea (and the patriarchal expectation) that we all have to have a boyfriend to steal jeans from?

Whatever the difference, these jeans are clutch when paired with a band tee, a long trench, or a chic sweater. Dress them up or dress them down, either way, you’re making your father proud.

Details + Embellishments:

Now, this is where it starts to get fun (what, dressing like your dad isn’t fun?)! This fall is all about the detail. Contrast striping, tie-dye, embroidery, and patchwork are all about adding a personal touch to your denim. And if you’re crafty, you can easily buy a pair of cheap thrifted jeans and do the work yourself.

Contrast striping is everywhere and consists of jeans sporting a stripe of different fabric down the leg of the pant, adding a sweet little touch of you. Tie-dyed denim is exactly what it sounds like. Very psyche-denim (speaking of dad jokes…). Embroidered denim is so flirty, and it takes your denim to the next level of cuteness.

The patchwork trend is straight out of the 1970s, and this look comes in two styles: patchwork designed with different washes of denim and those designed with other fabrics altogether. No matter which denim trends you’re obsessed with and which you could live without, the idea is personalizing your denim to perfectly represent you.

Other:

Jeans aren’t the only types of denim that are showing up for fall. Ex-boyfriend denim jackets are new to the scene. Baggier than their counterpart, they’re supposed to fit loose and relaxed, and like something you’ve acquired that you’re never giving back, hence the ex-boyfriend. Perfectly worn-in, your ex (i.e. the factory in which the jacket was made) did all the breaking in for you, and you’re now reaping the benefits.

Another take on the classic denim jacket is…you guessed it! Cropped. Everything in 2019 is cropped, and denim is no exception. Another trend for fall is the denim midi skirt. I’m between loving this and hating it. But I can see the allure of pairing it with a band tee and a pair of Vans.
