5 Delicious Ways To Level Up Your Popcorn

Popcorn is one of the most beloved movie snacks. Popping your own popcorn is definitely one step towards the perfect movie snack. However, sometimes, we crave something fancier and more indulgent than regular salted popcorn. That’s when these level up popcorn recipes come in. Whether you are looking for something sweet or a more interesting salty alternative, this list has you covered.

1. Bacon Fat Popcorn

This recipe is super simple but makes a really big difference in terms of the popcorn taste. It’s the perfect popcorn recipe for the bacon lovers, but will definitely be liked by anyone who is looking to try a more nuanced and more richer popcorn. You can find a full recipe here, but overall you just switch the butter for bacon fat.

An overview of the recipe: a paper bag, inside go the popcorn kernels and fat, then the bag goes in the microwave.

2. Honey Almond Caramel

Almonds are my favourite nuts and combined with popcorn and caramel, it makes my perfect movie snack. This recipe can be even further levelled up if you decide to roast the almonds yourself. There is nothing better than a fresh batch of freshly roasted almonds. The recipe otherwise is quite straightforward, though slightly more complicated than the previous one. You can find the full instructions here

An overview of the recipe: Make a caramel sauce, pour it over the popped popcorn along with the almonds and mix well. Place on baking tray and bake, taking care that the caramel doesn’t burn.

3. Churro Popcorn

This Churro inspired popcorn level up recipe is perfect for the cinnamon lovers out there. In case anyone doesn’t know, churro is a fired dough pastry. It is popular in Spain, Portugal, Latin America and really it has spread its magic all over the world. Which is quite cool, seeing as its origin may be a result of a China-Portugal collab. Maybe, churro’s history is fuzzy and complicated. What’s the opposite of complicated – this recipe. It’s really simple, inspired by churro, but really all about that cinnamon sugar. You can find the full recipe here.

Overview of the recipe: prepare the coating. Pop your popcorn. Make a “sauce” to cover the popcorn (helps make coating stick to popcorn + extra flavour) and then cover well with the coating.

4. Parsley Lemon Popcorn

This is a great summer level up recipe. It’s a really fresh take on popcorn, which would be the perfect snack for a summer outdoor movie night. Parsley and lemon go really well together and will give extra lightness, flavour and freshness to your popcorn. It’s also great for anyone who is not a fan of the sweet level up popcorn alternatives. Overview of the recipe: pop your popcorn, make a butter (and lemon) mixture and pour it over the popcorn making sure they are covered well. Add the parsley, salt and pepper to the popcorn. Toss well and serve.

5. Chocolate Coconut Oil Popcorn

I love chocolate popcorn. This recipe usually uses dark chocolate, but you can switch it up, or maybe even mix it up if you decide. Chocolate and coconut are a great paring. I love coconut oil with popcorn because it gives it a bit of extra taste. Adding chocolate to the mix and you have an explosion of taste. This really is an amazing levelled up popcorn recipe. And it’s simple as well. You can prep it during the day and have it with a movie later on. You can find the full recipe here.

Overview of the recipe: pop the popcorn, melt chocolate and coconut oil, pour in mixture over popcorn gradually making sure to mix well and coat as much as possible. Sprinkle with salt. Refrigerate until chocolate solidifies and enjoy.
