Do you ever get tired of eating? Yeah, me either. But I do get tired of trying to find new places to eat. Because let’s face it, most times campus food just doesn’t cut it. Going to school in Northridge, you might think you’re shit out of luck when it comes to trying to find delicious food. I mean, let’s be honest, few people associate great food with Northridge. But they are oh, so wrong. Here are 20 of the most delicious things to eat in Northridge that you definitely need to check out, like right now.

1. Ube Pancakes @ Ninong’s Pastries & Café

Pronounced “ooo-bay”, these purple pancakes are one breakfast item you don’t want to miss out on. Ube is a purple yam, which is mashed up and mixed into the batter, giving the pancakes their distinct purple color. One of the best thing about Ninong’s is if you’re not willing to commit to a yam pancake, but you want to try it, you can get a pancake flight! The flight comes with Ube, Buko (young coconut), and mango pancakes!

2. Pastrami Pizza @ Pizzasaurus Rex

Okay, I’ll admit this one sounds a little weird, so if you’re not feeling adventurous you might want to go with the meat lover’s pizza (does anyone else cringe at that name? No. Just me? Kay, cool.) But everyone should try the pastrami pizza at least once, if not twice…or maybe three times. But at Pizzasaurus Rex, you really can’t go wrong.

3. Loaded Subs @ Fat Sal’s

What makes these sandwiches loaded, you ask? The real question is what doesn’t make these sandwiches loaded? These subs are topped with chicken fingers, fries, and mozzarella sticks! There are loads of sandwiches to choose from (pun intended), but I recommend going with the classic Fat Sal sandwich, which comes with roast beef, fries, onion rings, and gravy.

4. Purple Grilled Pork Bahn Mi @ Bun Me!

Let me paint you a picture. It’s a hot day, because, you know, it’s the Valley, and you’ve just gotten out of class, and you’re hungry. Where are you going to go? Bun Me! (The exclamation point is included in the name, but I am also excited. It’s multipurpose punctuation.) These Vietnamese sandwiches are just what you want on a hot day. The grilled pork sandwich is topped with cool, crisp carrots that add a lovely element of crunch to the grilled pork.

5. Deep Fried Oreos @ Swingin’ Door Texas BBQ

Sometimes you’re just in the mood for carnival food, but you don’t want to actually go to a carnival. Here is where Swingin’ Door comes in. With a name like Swingin’ Door, you know you’ve come to the right place. A single order of these Oreos comes with four deep fried cookies, smothered in chocolate sauce. My advice is don’t eat a big meal before you come here because they are so delicious, you won’t want to stop.

6. Fish & Chips @ Northridge Fish & Chips

Yes, fish and chips in Northridge. Yeah, it seems weird. Yes, it is located in a strip mall. No, there is no need to be afraid. I promise you; these will be the best fish and chips you have ever had. And you should trust me because I have had a lot of fish and chips in my day. I’ve had it on islands, where you think it couldn’t get any better. But this restaurant has truly perfected the fish and chips. Each piece of fish is so perfectly fried that you can hear the symphony of crunching with every bite. You can even put it down and it doesn’t get soggy! The batter stays right on the fish. It’s like magic.

7. Burritos and Salsa Bar @ Salsa and Beer

Similar to Fish & Chips, Salsa and Beer looks less than desirable on the outside, but it’s what’s on the inside that matters, right? The moment you step into Salsa and Beer, you know you’re getting authentic Mexican food. The first thing you have to do before you order is go to the salsa bar! They have over five different types of salsa. Each one tastes like it was made in a small batch, especially for you.

8. Sunday Brunch @ Joe’s Café

If you want a relaxing brunch experience, come to Joe’s café and order the Stuffed French Toast. It. Is. Amazing. Stuffed with berries and cream, this fluffy French toast will satisfy your breakfast craving. To amplify the experience of a lovely Sunday brunch, enjoy the nice patio outside and dine al fresco.

9. My Hero Sandwich @ My Hero Submarine Sandwich Shoppe

While on the surface this looks like just another deli sandwich, deep down it is so much more than that. Okay, it is still a sandwich but a delicious one. The bread is fluffy and soft, while the ingredients are fresh. You can tell this sandwich was made by an Italian. One of the best things about My Hero is that they give discounts to CSUN students!

10. Poke Burrito @ Fishbowl Poke Co.

Judge me all you want, but I am not a big Cheetos fan. I do, however, recognize a masterpiece when I see one. And these Cheetos seasoned poke burritos are it. These burritos are stuffed with fish, seaweed, and other items commonly found in a poke bowl. But Fishbowl doesn’t stop there. They dust the outside of these burritos in Cheetos or Hot Cheetos crumbs. As for me, I’ll stick with the regular poke bowl, but what kind of a person would I be if I denied you this work of food art (Not literally. They don’t do fancy carvings with the burritos, so don’t get your hopes up.)

11. Rotisserie Chicken @ California Chicken Café

I know, I know. After Poke Burritos, this might seem a little boring. But if you’re feeling a bit on the “I’ve been eating a whole lot of crap lately” side of life, you definitely want to check this place out. This chicken is not too dry, it has crispy skin, and it comes with your choice of side. So if you’re not feeling too unhealthy from Poke Burritos and mozzarella stick sandwiches, I recommend the mashed potatoes. (Also check out their Instagram! It’s pretty cool!)

12. Ice Cream Panini @ Owl’s

And we’re back to the outrageous! At Owls, you can create your own ice cream Panini. It starts with you choosing a scoop of ice cream, sauce, and toppings. Then these items get placed between two slices of Hawaiian bread. The whole sandwich gets placed in a magical machine that cups the ice cream so when you take a bite some of the ice cream is melted but the middle is still frozen. It’s a bizarre phenomenon of the hot bread against the frozen ice cream, but it is something you have to try!

13. Animal Style @ In – N – Out

While not exclusive to Northridge, Animal Style fries and burgers are just something you’ve got to have, especially if you’ve never had it. Topped with melted cheese, grilled onions and their secret spread, animal style will never fail to be a favorite.

14. Prosciutto Sandwiches @ Italia Bakery and Deli

This shop feels just like Italy. (I would assume. I’ve never been there.) The shelves are filled with authentic Italian food from squid ink pasta to pizzelle cookies. But the best thing about this shop is their prosciutto sandwich. You can choose from domestic or imported meat.

15. Korean Mexican Fusion @ Kogi Truck

Even though the food truck craze has died down a bit, this is one place you will want to visit over and over again. Korean and Mexican are two types of cuisine you would assume do not mix well. But try a taco or burrito from this truck and you will be proved wrong. The tacos and burritos have classic fillings like meat and beans, but has a mixed green salad dressed with all types of Asian flavors.

16. Boba and Jelly @ Bon Bon Tea House

Even though this is a drink, not a meal, you should eat on the lighter side before grabbing this boba. The regular size is gigantic and is filled with either boba or jelly. They have the most exotic ices tea flavors that pair perfectly with their jelly selection. Additionally, their chocolate milk tea doubles as a drink and dessert!

17. Warm Chicken Shawarma @ FurnSaj Bakery

On those rare cold, rainy days, nothing is better than this warm Shwarma! If you don’t know what a Shawarma is, don’t feel bad. I had to look it up…Even after I had one. But anyway, a Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish, where Pita bread is stuffed with meat and different types of vegetables, some of which are pickled. Nothing beats biting into this warm dish on a cold day!

18. Giant Margaritas @ Acapulco Mexican Restaurant and Cantina

What’s better than a margarita? A giant margarita! But it gets better. They observe Margarita Mondays. So not only are these huge, but they’re also cheap. You’re welcome.

19. Ice Cream Taco @ Cream

This is a whole new way to eat ice cream in a waffle cone. Instead of the conventional, boring way to eat ice cream from a waffle cone, Cream has developed waffle cones that are shaped like taco shells! Each taco comes with your choice of ice cream (3 scoops to be exact) as well as toppings! Once you try this, you’ll never to back to the boring old waffle cone again….Unless you want to eat your ice cream in a slightly more convenient way.

20. Over the Top Breakfast @ Bea Bea’s

Over here at Bea Bea’s, breakfast is everything. At least that’s what their shirts tell us, but I don’t disagree. This restaurant will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. Pancakes topped with brownies, French toast topped with ice cream, Waffles topped with Nutella… It’s a dream. If it’s actually morning and you don’t want to get diabetes, you can get their more reined in breakfasts. Even the pancakes with fruit topped on it are to die for!

What ever you do, wherever you go in the Valley, you know you’re not more than 20 minutes away from some of the best food LA has to offer. What do you think of these  things to eat in Northridge?
