Anything is hard to decorate, and dorm rooms are sometimes the worst, especially because you usually have pretty limited space to fit everything into. But, if you stick to simple decor and invest in a whole lot of storage acessories, you can definitely fit it all in.
But it’s not just about having decor, you want decor that will make you feel at home, and most importantly, lit up a (usually) drab room with a whole lot of white and grey. So, in order to do so, you need to get some seriously colourful decor: and that’s what we’re here for.
Throw pillows are a classic way to brighten up any room, on a couch or bed! You can also find so many different patterns and colours that it’s almost hard to choose, but that just gives you more of an opportunity to choose a theme for your room if you want (we really love the cactus and llama look). This pillow is from Simon’s, where you can find plenty of really well priced (this one is only $20.00!) cute pillows.

Floor cushions, also called poufs, are a super cute addition to the decor of any room, dorm or not, but they’re also really useful when you have some friends over and very limited chairs (cause chairs are, admittedly, expensive). The one linked below is a cream colour, but you can find plenty of colourful ones (and even furry ones) if you really want to. They’re also really useful as small tables (just not for glasses).

Small side tables are the best to use by your bedside, or even by a window for plants! Give your room some colour by either buying a coloured one (pictured below) or buy a chrome one and paint it whatever colour you want with a bit of spray paint! An even cheaper option is to find a waste bin similar to this and turn it upside down, so you don’t have to pay those extra thirty dollars for furniture items.

Tealight jars are super cute, no matter the style, and you can use really simple mason jars if you really want to. We really love the colour and pattern of this jar, but there’s so many you could use to the same effect, and even colour them yourself with glass painter (which you can find at most DIY places like Michaels).

No one can argue that plants make a room that much brighter and lively, but if you want to give a little colour to the plants, you can buy some colourful pots! Our favourite are concrete pots dipped in paint, because they give a nice DIY look with some cute brightness added in. It can be hard to find a cheap place to get them (like the one we linked below) but you can always make them by buying a cheap terra cotta or concrete pot and painting them yourself!

Area rugs are perfect for dorm rooms with cold flooring, but even if you don’t have that problem, they make basically any room that much brighter. Stick to bright colours and woven patterns for more of a cute boho look, plus to give your room a lot more colour!
