12 Cute Spring Formal Hairstyles For Short Hair

Finding cute spring formal hairstyles for short hair can be difficult. The worst is when you find the perfect hairstyle, but it doesn’t work for you! For girls with short hair, we are here to help! Here’s a list of our favorite hairstyles for the spring season!

1. Side Waterfall Braid

The side waterfall braid is a go-to, easy hairstyle that can be dressed up or down. It starts as a regular french braid, but each time you let the top piece fall through and pick up a new strand of hair. There are plenty of YouTube videos that give comprehensive, step-by-step instructions, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll master this hairstyle in no time!

A side waterfall braid can be done on all types of hair, but sporting some casual curls or using texturizer will give the hairdo extra volume. Dress this look up with some flowery headbands or pins!

2. Elegant Low Bun

This low bun is a cute way to make an easy hairstyle look red carpet ready! Simply divide your hair into three sections at the nape of your neck. Backcomb, curl, or use texturizer on the ends to give them some volume before pinning them up off your neck. This process is not meant to be precise! The messier and more your hair overlaps, the more intricate and chic the overall look! Flowers or glittery pins are also a great addition to this updo!

3. Half-Up French Braid Crown

The half-up french braid crown takes a side waterfall to the next level. This elegant look can be achieved by first parting your hairline as desired, then french braiding each side separately. The trick with this hairstyle is to only french braid until right behind the ear before transitioning into a regular braid. Once you’ve done this to both sides, overlap and bobby pin the ends of both braids to give the illusion it’s one continuous braid. Feel free to tug on your newly braided crown to give it some extra volume!

4. Hair Accessories

Hair accessories are an easy way to turn a regular lob into a chic runway hairstyle! Here you have complete freedom to opt for glittery bobby pins, flowery clips, pearl barrettes, headbands, rhinestones or whatever else you have on hand. Clips can be a great way to keep shorter, loose strands of hair out of your face, or just spice up your outfit. Either way, they’re an addition that can’t go wrong!

5. Half-Up Half-Down Bun

A half-up half-down bun is one of the fastest cute spring formal hairstyles and the perfect way to dress up a lob. Simply separate the top half of your hair by creating a part that starts from your temples and wraps around to the back of your head. Pull this section into a ponytail, wrap your hair around itself to form a bun, and secure with bobby pins or any hair accessories of your choosing.

6. Tucked Braid Bun

This chic and stylish hairstyle isn’t your traditional bun. Create a regular braid beginning at the nape of your neck and braid as far down as possible. Once complete, tuck the tail underneath the base of the braid and secure with bobby pins. This simple updo is clean, crisp, and fitting for any situation!

7. Twist Updo

Inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s classic french twist, this elegant updo will have heads turning wherever you go! After parting your hair, tease the ends to increase volume. Next, gather all your hair from the right side to the middle of your head and secure it using bobby pins. Then begin twisting all the hair from the left, towards the middle.

This step can be tricky as the hair tends to curl into a bun, so be sure to keep the wrap long and sleek. Using more bobby pins or hair accessories of your choosing, secure the twisted hair in place starting at the bottom. Now you’re ready to grab some breakfast at Tiffany’s!

8. Upside-Down Braid to Bun

Spring will be calling your name with this refreshing look. Begin by flipping your hair upside down and start a french braid at the nape of your neck. Continue braiding until you reach the top of your head and twist the remaining strands into a top knot. Secure with bobby pins and don’t be afraid to add some spring accessories!

9. Bohemian Updo

The key to this bohemian chic hairstyle is perfecting messy beach waves. To give your hair that voluminous and textured look, style with dry shampoo, beach spray, and/or texturizer before beginning. Now that your hair is appropriately messy, it’s time to part your hair down the middle and create two braids along either side. After reaching the nape of your neck, wrap the remaining strands into a single low bun and secure with bobby pins or hair clips of your choice. Tug on your braids to loosen them up and complete the beachy look. Feel free to add flower pins along the braid or in the bun to radiate spring energy!

10. Topsy Turvy Pony

This cute spring formal hairstyle will leave people believing you spent hours in the bathroom when really it takes minutes. There are two ways to achieve this iconic look. The first involves twisting back two small sections of hair, one on each side of the face near the temples, and securing them with bobby pins or an elastic.

If even this seems time-consuming, you can pull two small sections into an elastic behind your head and proceed to turn the elastic over and over to create the twisted look in the side pieces. Either way, you’re going to end up with an airy and picture-perfect hairstyle!

11. Curls

Nothing screams spring more than curls and luckily there are plenty of ways to achieve your dream look. There are plenty of heatless options that you can do with wet hair and leave in overnight, and then get to wake up to a head full of curls the next morning!

Some methods include the headband wrap, twist buns, french braids, or leave-in spiral curlers. Of course, a curling wand would also do the trick if you don’t have the time for an overnight expenditure! Be sure to add a finishing spray after the fact to keep your curls from falling flat halfway through the day!

12. Double Dutch Braid

Rounding out our list for cute spring formal hairstyles, this whimsical look is perfect for when you want to keep your hair up and out of the way. First, divide your hair into the left and right sections, then dutch braid each portion. In a dutch braid, you begin with three pieces of hair, but instead of twisting underneath as you would in a french braid, you reverse the direction of the twist. YouTube tutorials can be a great help when navigating this portion of the hairstyle.

Dutch braid until you reach the nape of the neck and then finish off with a regular braid before securing with an elastic. Double dutch braids are also a great opportunity to weave in strands of ribbon or add a flower crown to complete the look.
