Lately, I have been on a mission to use less heat on my hair. We all know how bad it is to use a blow dryer, straightener or curling iron too often. However, when your natural hair seems to be unmanageable, it can be difficult to cut back on styling tool use. Thankfully, there are a ton of options when it comes to no-heat hairstyles. The no-heat hairstyles on this list are all quick and cute and perfect for school.
This is one of my go-to looks when I’m running late in the morning because of how quickly it can be achieved. You simply flip your head over and gather all your hair into a high ponytail. Then, you twist the length of the ponytail and then wrap your hair around itself until it is in the perfect top knot. This hairstyle is truly effortless. You can also add more volume by using a sock bun. Stores sell foam rings that you can wrap your hair around in order to create a perfect, voluminous top knot. If you’re going for a more messy and laid back look, you can pull out a few strands of hair around your face to help frame your face as well. If you’re into accessorizing, this look can also be completed by adding a scrunchie to your bun or tying a silk scarf around it.
Low buns are just as easy as top knots, but can be a great variation to a typical bun. I like to part my hair as usual and then gather it all behind my neck. I then twist the length of my hair to one side. Then, I wrap the hair around until it creates a bun. You can opt for a more sleek look by using gel or hairspray to tame flyaways. You can also use a comb to make sure you aren’t leaving any pieces out. However, I prefer a more messy and laid-back look. So, I don’t use a comb, but rather just gather my hair with my hands. Once my hair is in a bun, I also pull out some of the shorter pieces of hair around my face. I like having a few pieces left out of the bun to make the look more casual.
You can’t go wrong with braiding your hair. There are also so many options. I love braids because they keep my hair out of my face and secure all day. You can choose the classic braid, French braid or fishtail braid. If you don’t know how to do any of these styles, there are tons of YouTube tutorials that teach you how to do various braids on yourself step by step. You can also choose how many braids you want. I love doing two french braids. These hairstyles are great when you don’t want to be bothered by your hair, but still want it to look cute and put together.
This is another easy look, but this one is completed when your hair is wet. Right out of the shower, I like to apply leave in conditioner. I then let my hair air dry until it is just a little damp. Next, I use a sea salt spray to help add texture to my waves. Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray is super affordable and is a great option. It gives you that after beach hair look, without the beach trip. After applying the texturizing spray, I then loosely braid my hair in one regular braid behind my head. If you want tighter waves, you can do more braids to create more texture. Next, you just let your hair dry. You can even sleep on the braids overnight, so you’ll be left with pretty and effortless waves in the morning. All you have to do is undo the braids and finger comb through your hair.
For days where hair is just not cooperating, you can’t go wrong with wearing a baseball cap. This is a perfect look for class. On mornings where I’m in a rush, I like to throw my hair in a low bun and simply put a hat on over. You can also braid your hair and put a hat on top of that. You can also just put a cap on over your natural hair for one of the easiest no-heat hairstyles possible. Hats are a great accessory and can help solve any bad hair day.
Learning how to work with your natural hair and embrace it is a great idea. I have very curly hair that I constantly used to straighten because I didn’t like it. After doing a lot of research on how to style my natural hair, I actually started to enjoy it. Magazines, internet articles and YouTube videos can be tons of help when it comes to learning to work with your hair. Finding what works for you will be a lot of trial and error. There are plenty of hair styling products available, so you just have to find a mixture of ones that work for you. Product reviews can also be very helpful, since a lot of them come from girls who have similar hair types to you. Learning to care for and love your natural hair will save you tons of time and effort in the long run. Natural hair is also unique and what makes you special.
