As the seasons begin to change, so do the clothes in our closet. Whether you’re living in a place with a warmer or cooler climate, there’s always a weather related reason that you need to change some items to fit these differences. With fall weather coming quickly, it’s time to put the summer clothes away! Here are 10 cute fall outfits you can wear to class!
Elle Magazine has claimed that ‘Power Red’ is the color of the fall season. That means you should be finding a way to feature it in your everyday outfits. Some suggestions would be to wear red leather boots, red shirts, pants, or even casual red dresses for a more ‘fancy’ look. Not about the red clothing? Try red lipstick or red eyeshadow. Remember, this color is supposed to make you feel more empowered, so strut your stuff!

This seems more like an obvious thing to do, but hear me out. Don’t push aside that spaghetti strapped dress you bought. Instead, wear a tight long sleeve shirt underneath! Stockings will most likely become your friends, as well as camisoles and cardigans. The color scheme for this can be as exotic or minimalistic as possible. Try opting for sheer layers to put under t-hirts, or even fishnet stockings for some extra flare. Don’t be shy with also layering your crop tops with a longer shirt underneath!

Once we transition into the fall weather, it’s inevitable that you will soon have to trade your strappy sandals for a pair of comfortable booties. My advice when it comes to picking the perfect pair is to first ensure that you have the basics– i.e. a pair of black or monochromatic colored boots. That pair can be identified as your ‘everday’ all outfit fitting pair.
Then, once you have established that color scheme into your closet, it’s time to venture in a more ‘statement’ pair. As I mentioned before, reds are IN for fall this year. Why not buy that pair of red leather booties? If red isn’t your thing, embroidered boots (whether they have a floral touch or vintage patches ironed on) and studded boots, are also a great way to add a pop of color to your wardrobe.

Time to throw away that moldy poncho and get rain gear that actually makes walking in a storm enjoyable. This fall drift away from the typical yellow jacket and opt for more vibrant colors such as oranges, reds, and greens. The contrast of color will add an extra pop for your outfit, which will also make your overall look more sophisticated and artistic. For an extra touch, include pieces with graphic designs on the back as well.

Fashion repeats itself, but arguably, it has it’s own spin. This year, the 70s are back! Plaid prints with mustard and brown undertones have been spotted on several runways recently. From jackets, to skirts, to blazers, this print has been making its way through the fashion industry–one thread at a time.

Business casual is always a good idea if you want to present yourself in a more professional way. Luckily for those dreading to button up their blazers, no fear. This fall, work-inspired pieces are in! So proudly pull out those blazers, pair it with a graphic tee to make it more casual, and create a more ‘clean cut’ look with some matching trousers. Embrace the professional appearance, and don’t shy away from fitted jackets.

Fall, as we know, can create a cooler climate for those living above the equator. Luckily, high collars are in for this season, which is both cute and convenient (goodbye infinity scarves!). Turtlenecks are no longer reserved for librarians. Layer them underneath your favorite summer dress or tuck them into a pair of high waisted jeans for a simpler look. In addition to turtlenecks, there’s a more intricate style available for those more daring. Victorian collars, also known as “ruffled” collars, are also making an appearance on the runway.

In addition to the more professional suits, there is a more comfortable alternative. Have an early morning lecture? Don’t feel like wearing something more fitted? Don’t worry. Track suits are another great way to look put together, but casual. Opt for more vibrant colors, such as red and green, in order to create a more ‘standout’ look. To dress it up, you can also throw on a pair of heeled boots, or even wear a fancier top underneath the jacket.

Have a mixer or fancier event coming up? Sick of buying dresses you only seem to wear once? Snag something with a velvet finish. The simpler, the better. The comfortable texture of the velvet will not leave you wanting to rip off your dress by the end of the night.

Forget the typical black belt and try something new! Many of you may have noticed the synched waist-belt styles making an appearance in your local shops. If you already have a broad collection of brown and black belts, consider getting one with more vibrant colors (hint: red). This way it can draw attention your waist, and make your once plain shirt look more trendy. If you are looking for a more simpler style, black belts with designer’s initials have also been seen on many fashionistas, as well as western-styled clasps.
