6 Cute Drive In Movie Dates You And Your BF Should Try

There is just something so cute about drive-in movie dates. If you are on the lookout for some fun date ideas for you and your boyfriend, check out this list of drive-in movie date ideas!

1. Retro Romance

The perfect type of movie to watch on your first drive-in movie date with your man is of course to go see a romantic movie, whether comedy or drama. If you want to really commit to the date idea, I recommend going to a showing of an old, classic, black and white movie. Many drive-in theatres do special showings of classic movies and the tickets usually are not very expensive! A way to make the date feel more exciting is for you and your boyfriend to dress up for the occasion. Depending on the decade that the movie you are going to see was released in, dress for that decade. For example, if the movie you are going to see is something like a classic Audrey Hepburn movie, Roman Holiday, you should dress in a 1950s outfit, as this movie was released in the year 1953. This will make the date feel more like a retro experience and will also make for some adorable photos of the two of you!

2. The Decked-Out Flatbed

Another idea for the drive-in movie dates, that takes considerably less dressing up, is the decked-out flatbed approach. All you will need for this date is, of course, a drive-in theatre to attend and a truck. Before you leave for the date, decorate the flatbed for the evening. This can be done with anything you have around the house such as fluffy blankets, pillows to lean on, twinkly lights hung around the edges of the truck, and the most important factor, snacks. Some drive-in movie theatres have a concession stand, but if yours does not you can simply run to the Dollar Store or your local Walmart or Target to grab snacks for the night. Grab your boyfriend’s favorites, and yours of course, and popcorn. Popcorn is a must! The decorated flatbed will allow you guys to cuddle while watching the movie and eat all the snacks your stomach can handle. Plus, it also is the perfect backdrop for some fun photos of you and your man!

3. The DIY Drive-In

If you do not have a drive-in movie theatre in your particular area, no worries, you can easily make your own at home! Whether you have a lush backyard or simply a spare wall or garage door, you can make a theatre of your very own. You will need a screen of some sort, whether it is an actual screen meant for projecting, a blank white wall, or even a large white sheet. This will be what your movie is projected on, so make sure it is large enough for your liking. You will also need a projector to actually get your movie onto the screen itself. I know that there are many options available online, even Amazon sells these! Once you have the technological things figured out, the rest is easy. The last thing you’ll have to do is make the area all cozy for you and your boyfriend with pillows, blankets, and of course snacks to munch on. I’ve even seen couples use blowup mattresses to lay on outside while they watch movies, talk about comfort! Whatever you decide for your setup, your boyfriend will see all the work and effort you put into the date and I’m sure will be so grateful. This is the most private option for drive-in movie dates, so if you and your boyfriend are homebodies than this date idea is perfect for you!

4. Spooky Showtime

If you and your partner are into scary movies and the horror genre of film, scary movie drive-in dates are right up your alley! Around Halloween especially, drive-in theatres are usually showing horror movies to celebrate spooky season. If it is not during the fall season, you may have to do more research to find one showing scary movies, but most of these theatres have showtimes listed online, so it should not be too difficult to find one you want to see with your man. If it happens to be Halloween, you could dress up in a cute couples costume to make the evening even more festive. This is a great opportunity to make your boyfriend take photos with you as well. If you are not into scary movies and get freaked out easily, it is still fun to go see one, especially in a drive-in setting. It definitely gives you more of an excuse to snuggle up really close! Trust me, you will look back and laugh about it later.

5. Sci-Fi Dine-In

If you live in Florida, specifically near Orlando, then I highly recommend you get a reservation for the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. This restaurant embodies the classic 1950s drive-in theatre atmosphere combined with mouth-watering delicious American cuisine. They show actual science fiction films from the 1950s and 1960s while you enjoy your meal and they even went as far as making an entire night sky with palm trees and star constellations all along the ceiling. You really feel like you have gone back in time! This date definitely requires less effort than the other ones thus far, so if you are not much of a planner then this date is for you. I went a few Christmases ago and had a wonderful time. The lighting is perfect for photos and the food was so good. I recommend the classic hamburger and strawberry shake for a real 1950s feeling experience.

6. A Lil’ Trunk Wine Tasting

If you and your boyfriend are feeling like being a bit bougie, then go ahead and bring some wine along for your drive-in move dates. Wine makes the whole experience feel elevated and just a little more grown-up. I recommend bringing a wide variety of wine so that you can get the true feel and experience of a wine tasting. Grab a nice pinot noir, a little red cabernet, maybe a sweet pink Moscato, and you are good to go. If you want to score brownie points with your man, pick up his favorite wine as well. Having a little wine tasting in your trunk is a fun, elegant way to get a little drunk while you hang out in the trunk! This is a great idea if you are doing a DIY drive-in date at home so neither one of you have to drive afterward.
