2. Take a picture with the Joseph Smith Sphinx at Gilgal Gardens.

Located: 749 E 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84102

Okay, so this is probably the weirdest place in downtown Salt Lake City. And that’s exactly why it’s worth seeing. A short walk from Trolley Square, Gilgal gardens is a sculptural garden nestled between two homes. After you check out the bizarre human organ statue, walk to Tasty Thai (1302 500 E) for the best bowl of curry you’ll ever have.

3. Cheer on the Utes!

Cheer on the Utes together at an athletic event! U of U football has tons of big matchups this season, so this is sure to be a must-attend event! Plus, students get discounted tickets depending on the matchup!

4. Enjoy tea at The Grand America.

While this date is a little bit on the more expensive end, it’s such a fun thing to do! The Grand America is one of the finest hotels in the Salt Lake Valley, and they have amazing brunches, high teas, and dinners. Seriously. The food is scrumptious, and everyone is dressed to the nines. You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a swanky New York City hotel.

5. Get behind the controls of a jet at The Leonardo.

Located: 209 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84111

6. Appreciate fine art and a cup of coffee at Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

Located on campus, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts is the best place in the valley to educate yourself on all forms of art. And it’s free! There’s a delicious cafe located in the lobby of the museum, and you absolutely have to stop and get coffee after you’ve walked through the museum!

One of my favorite places in the valley! This is The Place Heritage Park is perfect for all history lovers. Immerse yourself in pioneer life as you walk through log cabins, old mercantiles, and write your name on the chalkboard at school. Rumor has it, the barn on the property is haunted, so make sure you listen for sounds of square dancing!

8. See an indie film at Tower Theatre.

Tower Theatre is a historic movie theatre on 9th and 9th in downtown Salt Lake. Tower Theatre shows a variety of films ranging from new releases to classic films. The theatre was first opened in 1928, and is another supposedly haunted location in Salt Lake City.

9. Go on every ride at Lagoon.

A bit of a drive, and a bit pricey, but you can’t put a price on a visit to Utah’s only theme park! Ride Cannabal and don’t forget to get an ice cream cone in pioneer village. If you choose to stay all day, pack a lunch and eat in the picnic area! If you choose to go in October, make sure you check out the “Frightmares” event. The park celebrates Halloween with several in park theme houses and other spooky surprises! This has to be one of the most exciting date ideas around The University of Utah!

Another idea for the adventurous! Check out the Donut Falls hiking trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon (15-20 minutes from campus). Wear shoes that can get wet and set out on an easy 3.5 mile hike to a beautiful waterfall. Find directions here!
