1. Always Carry Lotion With You
No matter what the season is, I always carry a mini-lotion with me. It is small enough that I can easily fit it in my wristlet and have it when needed. The one I prefer to use is Nivea because it works great, and I can buy it cheap at my local store.

2. Lotion As Soon As I Get Out Of The Shower
As soon as I get out of the shower I immediately dry off my skin and then apply a lotion. For myself, if I don’t lotion in a matter of minutes my skin gets irritated. I lotion from head to toe, and it helps keep my skin soft throughout the day.
3. Limit My Showers
I am the girl who can be in the shower for hours, but that kills my skin. I try to not be in the shower for more than 15 minutes. It can be tempting to take a steamy hot shower when it’s -10 degrees out, but it is not worth what it does to your skin.
4. Work On It Before It Becomes An Issue
Even if your skin does not seem to be dry, you should still apply lotion anyway. You want to keep your skin hydrated, and help prevent it from becoming drier.
5. Choose Products Wisely
Be careful with not using harsh loofahs and washcloths to wash your skin in the shower. Choose natural soaps and lotions that are free of perfumed soaps, and alcohol products.
6. Moisturize Before Bed
I think moisturizing before bed has done great things for my skin. I’ll lotion the same way as I do after the shower, and then put on a super soft hoodie and sweatpants. I get to be comfy and wake up with soft skin. It’s a win-win.

7. Drink Plenty Of Water
The second you start to get dehydrated, your skin starts to suffer. Make sure you are drinking enough water to not only keep your body hydrated, but also your skin. Personally, I try to drink 150oz of water a day (I know, crazy), and I usually reach that goal every day.
8. Watch What You Eat And Drink
Just as water can, what you eat can affect your dry skin. It’s hard to not give into everything during the winter when you are surrounded by yummy holiday food. Foods that can help dry skin are fish, nuts, avocado and cucumber. Some bad goods are sugar, alcohol, salt, and coffee.
9. Wear Soft Clothing
Wearing clothing that is rough, like wool, can irritate dry skin more than it already is. Choose softer fabrics and avoid the big rough sweaters.
10. Never Scratch
I am the first person who is guilty of scratching my dry skin, which causes it to become 1000x more irritated. If I feel my skin starting to get itchy, I will try to apply lotion to that area. And 9 out of 10 times it works.
