Do you love beauty products but also have concern about your makeup obsession’s impact on animals? As a beauty connoisseur and animal-lover, I try to shop for vegan beauty products as much as I can, but it’s so hard to find a product that works AND is good for the planet! It’s important to know what’s in your beauty products not only for your own personal health, but for the health of animals and the health of the planet. After searching high and low, reading about and trying products for myself, and creating my own collection of vegan and cruelty-free beauty products, I’ve come up with a list of the ten that take the cake (vegan cake of course)! Here are the 10 must-have vegan and cruelty-free beauty products to add to your collection.
After searching long and hard for a high volume, long-lasting, everyday use mascara, I fell in love with Milk Makeup’s KUSH High Volume Mascara. Milk Makeup does not test on animals, their suppliers do not test on animals, and they are dedicated to staying 100% cruelty-free and vegan because they “love (they’re office dog) Buddy, and (their) planet.” This mascara comes in two sizes, a mini and a full, and for an $24 full size product, you’d think this mascara costs $50! The product is made from unique heart-shaped fibers, Hemp-derived Cannabis oil, and pure pigments for an intense black finish. The packaging is sleek, the product lasts, and it’s 100% vegan! What more could you want?
It’s a classic. I still haven’t found a better high-gloss, non-stick, vegan and cruelty-free lip gloss better than this one. I bought the trio and I recommend it to everyone. The pack of three comes with a clear, a holographic, and a red gloss. Made with Vitamin E and Jojoba oil, these glosses will keep your lips soft and moisturized and give them a shine that begs for a golden hour photoshoot.
While not all Drunk Elephant products are, the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser is 100% vegan. $30 may seem a bit steep for this guy, but trust me, it is so worth it! This cleanser is aimed at removing traces of makeup and dirt, leaving your skin soft and glowing. While it’s made to remove dirt and unclog pores, the No. 9 is formulated at a non-stripping pH of 5.5, so in essence, it “takes the bad away and leaves the good!”
Another classic product you’ll want to buy over and over again, this concealer provides high coverage but is less heavy than other full-coverage concealers. A little bit goes a long way with this one– apply just a little bit under your eyes and in your t-zone, and you’ll be on your way to flawless. There are over 30 shades to choose from, so no matter your skin tone, tarte’s got you.
Now this is an investment you’ll be grateful you made. This primer is perfect for the summer with a fresh coconut scent and a nutrient rich formula. Your new best friend in extending your makeup wear, this Marc Jacobs primer is light and airy but highly effective, cruelty-free and vegan!
Ouai is a cruelty-free haircare brand that caters to your personal hair type and needs. Choose from their fine, medium, and thick shampoo and conditioner, all which are made with biotin, hemp seed extract, chia seed oil and keratin. Ouai believes beauty starts from within, which is why they dedicate themselves to utilizing natural and animal-product-free ingredients. And not only is the product great, but their bottles are adorable!
Now this line is a bit pricey, but I promise, TOTALLY worth it. I found this line during my first year of college in NYC while I was looking for a vegan nail salon. Sundays’ main studio is located right by the flatiron building in Manhattan, but don’t worry, if you can’t make it to their studio, they sell their polishes and mani/pedi kits online! Sundays polish is 100% vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic, and lacking many of the major harsh synthetic chemicals used in your typical drug-store nail care brands. The polish is great quality and long-lasting, and their packaging is elegant and minimalist in style. You’ll want to order new shades every season!
This aloe-based toner is a must have for the summer months. It’s non-drying, alcohol-free, fragrance-free and gentle on the skin while hydrating and purifying. I use this toner for my night skincare routine, applying with a cotton pad after I’ve cleansed my face. It leaves your skin feeling refreshed and healthy– I could not recommend this product more. Buy it online, at Sephora, Ulta, Urban Outfitters; it’s everywhere!
This foundation is a long-lasting, medium-coverage 100% vegan and cruelty-free foundation that will do wonders for your skin. I personally have more oily skin with some dry patches, and I found this foundation to be just perfect. It is made with micellar technology to mimic the texture of your skin, eliminating cakey-ness and making your skin appear naturally flawless. Ingredients are sourced from Pategonia, known to be one of the purest environments in the world. It’s nature’s gift to help you feel naturally beautiful!
Stella McCartney is one of my favorite vegan luxury brands, and a great place to shop everything from shoes and bags to perfume. Finding a fragrance that does not test on animals is no easy task, but Stella McCartney is dedicated to providing safe and quality cruelty-free products, and this fragrance embodies that mission. Support the animals, save the planet, and smell good too!
