10 Creative Ways To Bring The Outdoors Into Your Space

Nature is such an important part of our well-being as humans and when we’re inside for too long we can start to lose that sense of connection with the natural world just outside our door. With these 10 creative ways to bring the outdoors into your space, you’ll be feeling that connection to nature in no time! There are so many ways that we can infuse natural elements into our homes and these tips are a great place to start if you’re looking for ways to rekindle your connection with the outdoors from the inside out.

1. Plants!

The most obvious and typical go-to for bringing the outdoors in is to keep a bunch of different plants inside your home! There are a lot of different plants that thrive indoors and there are even some types of trees that you can put inside to give your space a real outdoorsy feel.

Having multiple plants inside can improve the air quality in your space and bring in some vibrancy and life! Don’t feel pressured to stick with the typical plants, flowers are also a great way to bring the outdoors in and add great color and scents! There are a lot of different options for plants, so have fun with them!

2. Photographs/Framed Art

Hanging some photos or art that capture the beauty of nature is a great way to bring the outside in. Pictures of plants, landscapes, bodies of water, the sky, the possibilities are endless! If you have a lot of wall space you can go for larger prints to really open up the room and bring the feeling of nature to life.

If you’re feeling really creative, feel free to DIY some nature art yourself! Creating your own art from nature is a really good way to reconnect with the natural world while making your space more outdoorsy.

3. Let In Natural Light

Natural light from the sun is not only great for the houseplants or pets you’ve got, but for you as well! Opening up your curtains and blinds to allow the sunshine to fill your space allows for great natural lighting that’s good for boosting moods and productivity in many people. It can really make a difference allowing some natural sun rays to flow into your space! Go ahead and let that light shine and see the beauty for yourself!

4. Use Natural Furniture

Filling your space with furniture crafted from natural materials such as wood or stone can really help bring the outdoors in. These materials are often found in nature all around us, so to have furniture crafted from them brings those natural materials into a space that may feel unnatural, like a kitchen or living room!

This can help create a sense of being in nature even when you’re just lounging inside, and these materials offer a lot of natural beauty, so furniture made from wood or stone often add a lot of beauty to your space as well as an outdoorsy feel!

5. Play With Color

Including colors that are often found naturally outside in your indoor spaces can give the illusion of being outside when you’re really not! Using deep earthy tones like greens and browns on your walls, furniture or floors can have a powerful impact on the feel of a room, especially when combined with natural furniture or decor.

If earthy tones are too intense for you, try lighter, more beachy tones! Using colors found in the sand like tans or beiges and colors found in the sky like light blues can have the same effect as earthy tones, just with a different natural environment! Play around with colors inspired by nature and see how easily your space can be transformed!

6. Decorate With Nature

Decorating with things found in nature or inspired by the natural world is a fun way to bring the outdoors into your space and allows you to be creative! There are so many things right outside your door that could make fashionable and creative statement pieces or decor in your space.

Seashells and beach glass make great decor if you’re going for a beachy vibe, or leaves, pinecones, twigs – almost anything else you could think of works great for more earthy vibes! Decorating with nature is a great way to express yourself while strengthening your connection to nature and bringing the outdoors into your home.

7. Use Eco-Friendly Products

Using eco-friendly products in your home is a great way to connect yourself with nature while helping to reduce the waste and harm that most products do to the environment. Green cleaning products, packaging, kitchen utensils, and many more things are great ways to bring the natural world into your space.

Surrounding yourself with eco-friendly products is a great reminder to treat our wonderful planet with care and to keep you thinking about nature! You can rest easy knowing that your space is environmentally-conscious and you’re doing your part to keep it green and healthy.

8. Open Windows

Opening up the windows in your indoor space lets in some fresh air that is good for you, your pets, and your plants! Fresh air can bring with it the smells of the outdoors which helps to create the illusion of being outside when you’re inside.

Letting in a breeze can feel refreshing and lets out some of the stale air that’s been inside and circulates in more fresh, good-for-you air. Even if it’s just for a moment, opening up a window is an effective way to connect more with the outdoors and to bring that natural feel into your space.

9. Try A Zen Garden!

Zen gardens are a great way to creatively bring the outdoors in! They’re great for relaxing and fostering a sense of calmness in any room and can be customized however you’d like, allowing you to get really creative with them!

From the color of the sand you pick to the pieces you choose to incorporate into your garden, it can be a really great way to bring an interactive piece of nature into your home! I have a small bonsai tree in the one in my apartment and I love the way it looks and gives my small space a more calm and fresh natural feel.

10. Incorporate Natural Textures & Patterns

Including textures or patterns inspired by nature when designing your indoor space is a super effective way to bring the outdoors in and can be a great opportunity to get creative with your decor and design. Whether it’s a full wallpaper or a small throw pillow, patterns and textures can be incorporated in so many different ways in an indoor space!

Just be sure not to mix too many different patterns or textures together in one area, then your space may feel cluttered or disorganized. Instead, try to pick one pattern or one texture and run with it!

Bringing the outdoors into your indoor space is easy and fun with these 10 creative ideas. Reconnect with nature and let your creativity flow when you’re designing your space and don’t be afraid to include natural materials! Have fun with it and get outdoorsy!
