Creative Summer Job Ideas For Teens

Finding a summer job can seem like a chore sometimes! Summer break is the time to hang out with friends, make memories, and tan by the pool. We’ve compiled a list of summer job ideas that will allow you to create your own schedule so that you don’t have to miss out on time with your friends!

1. Write A Blog

Blogs are a great way to connect with people from all walks of life. Plus, they allow you to hone your grammar skills over the summer! Since most people gravitate to pictures or videos over written words, consider adding some pictures and videos to keep your readers interested! You can make money with your blog by advertising for companies, or you can work as a freelance writer creating content for small businesses. This job option is perfect for teens who enjoy writing and creative thinking!

2. Nanny

If you love kids, then this is the perfect summer job for you! You can apply to work at a daycare, post ads on your social media page, or ask family friends if they need a summer nanny. Even if you don’t love kids, being a nanny is a great summer job. Most families who are looking for a nanny are willing to pay good money for a responsible and hardworking person to take care of their kids. The nice part about this job is that you won’t have to wait for a manager to send your work schedule for the week! Usually, nannies have a consistent timeframe for their job, so there will still be plenty of time for you to hang out with your friends.

3. Decorate For Parties

If you have a talent for party decorating, consider making that your job! Balloon arches, backdrops, and hand-lettered signs are in high demand, especially during graduation season! With this job, you would be exchanging your talent for money, rather than your time. That is always the best way to operate when you are working!

4. Sell Your Crafts

This job is perfect for the artsy teen! If you are missing art classes over the summer, consider making some crafts and selling them on Etsy! There are so many creative crafts you can make and sell, from stickers and canvas paintings to t-shirts and crocheted bags. Pull out your Cricut or grab your knitting needles and get to crafting!

5. Sales Associate

Stores are always looking to employ reliable and diligent employees. Consider applying at your favorite boutique or clothing store to be a sales associate! You will greet customers, help them find the merchandise that they need, operate the register, and be involved in the general operation of the store. This job is perfect for teens who love fashion and enjoy working with people.

6. Barista

If you love coffee or tea, consider applying at your favorite local coffee shop! This is a fun summer job for anyone looking to gain work experience in a relaxed environment. Most coffee shops will start hiring at age fifteen, so if you are fifteen or older this is an ideal job for you!

7. Organize Cluttered Spaces

If you enjoy having a clean and tidy room, then you are most likely great at organizing! Offer your organizational skills to your friends and family who may be lacking in that department. You could go into homes and organize rooms, or go into business offices and organize their supplies.

8. Model

If you are passionate about a certain style or brand of clothing, consider becoming a model or ambassador for that company! This job may require some traveling, but most modeling companies will pay well for teens who are willing to promote their apparel! You will most likely need to have social media accounts to promote the brands you are modeling.

9. Edit Videos & Photos

In this digital age, everyone has photos or videos that they need to be enhanced or edited. If you are a tech-savvy teen, consider advertising your talents! You could take photos and shoot videos for companies, or edit people’s personal photos and videos. If you have an eye for photography, set up some photo shoots to do with friends, family, and local businesses to increase your clientele and hone your skills!

10. Clean Houses

Most families have parents who both work and kids that participate in various activities. That means they have very little time to keep up with household chores, which is where you come in! Offer your cleaning services to a few families that you know. You can easily get paid a couple hundred dollars per house. This job gives plenty of flexibility and time for you to spend with friends over the summer while still making some spending money.

11. House Sit

If you have friends and family members that are traveling over the summer, offer to house-sit for them! This could be as simple as checking their mail and watering their plants a few times, or staying at the house and taking care of it! If house-sitting is a little too ambitious for you, consider pet-sitting! Pet-sitting is a great way to spend time with animals and learn how to take care of something dependent on you. If you love animals and enjoy taking care of things, then this summer job is a great option for you!

12. Sell Produce

If your family has a garden, consider selling some of your produce! You could sell homemade jams, salsas, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and a variety of other things! People love having fresh, homegrown ingredients for their meals. You could appeal to their demand by offering your fresh produce! If you don’t have a food-producing garden, consider selling flowers that grow on your property! You can make various bouquets and sell them in mason jars or cute glass bottles. Aesthetically pleasing bouquets will be a huge hit with your friends and family!
