Found yourself in Los Angeles and don’t know which areas to visit? Here’s a guide to all the best neighborhoods in LA. Make sure you stop by a few of these the next time you’re in town and have some spare moments to wander around.
Santa Monica is one of LA’s world-renowned suburbs. Known for it’s beachy, laid back vibes, it’s a good place to visit on the weekend with friends or family. Stop by the 3rd Street Promenade, a popular outdoor mall, to do some shopping; then grab lunch on Ocean Avenue at one of the many restaurants that line it. Take a walk along the bike path by the beach and enjoy all that the ocean has to offer. Or stop by the pier for an afternoon of amusement park attractions. If you’re looking for some adult fun, there’s no shortage of places to get dinner, drinks, and dance a little. I recommend Main Street if you’re looking for more of a hip and trendy vibe. Definitely don’t miss out on this quaint part of LA!
If you’re looking for exciting nightlife, West Hollywood is the place to be. Santa Monica Boulevard lies at the heart of it, and is home to a variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs. The gay scene is alive and well in this neighborhood, and people of all ages, races, and sexual orientations are welcomed warmly. If you want to spend a memorable night out in Los Angeles, I highly recommend you come here. West Hollywood is also on the cleaner and safer side than many other neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It gets a little pricey, though, depending on where you’re going. But definitely give it a shot if you want to check out LA’s queer scene for yourself.
Venice lies adjacent to Santa Monica, and offers more of an artsy vibe if you’re looking for a down to earth, hipster neighborhood. Venice Boardwalk is world famous, and although a little touristy, can be a good way to spend an afternoon with friends or family. Artists and street performers line the boardwalk, showcasing their talents for all to enjoy. If you’re over the beach and boardwalk, head to Abbot Kinney, a street in the heart of Venice that offers restaurants, bars, and boutiques. If you’re looking to indulge in some of California’s finest “greenery,” Venice is definitely the place to be, with dispensaries all around. Make sure you stop by this eccentric neighborhood while you’re in town.
The Fairfax District lies next to West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and there’s never a shortage of things to do in this part of town. Another self proclaimed hipster neighborhood, the Fairfax District is a great place to grab a bite to eat or shop. It’s chock full of thrift stores, and every Sunday, a flea market is held at Fairfax High School, which is always fun to check out. It conveniently lies right off of Melrose, which is renowned for it’s many stores, eateries, and photo ops. If you want to have the stereotypical LA experience, the Fairfax District should definitely be on your list of places to check out.
What would Los Angeles be without Beverly Hills? This classic LA neighborhood is home to many of the world’s biggest stars. It boasts magnificent mansions on scenic streets that are breathtaking to catch a glimpse of. Stop by the Beverly Hills Hotel for brunch, then drop by Rodeo Drive to window shop designer stores. 90210 has some great restaurants, bars, and shops, but they don’t come cheap; be mindful that you might be spending some extra cash if you choose to explore this neighborhood. But it’s definitely one of LA’s gems, and shouldn’t be missed.
