10 Cool Dessert Places In Los Angeles You Must Try

The city of Los Angeles offers a plethora of options for not only restaurants to dine at but also plenty of amazing dessert places to try as well. From pies to cupcakes to sundaes to baked goods, pastry chefs across the city are becoming more creative and taking desserts to the next level in terms of presentation and taste. Craving something sweet? Check out these cool dessert places that will satisfy your sweet tooth when you come and visit Los Angeles:

1. Sprinkles

Since the world’s first cupcake bakery opened its doors in their Beverly Hills location in 2005, Sprinkles has gained both a cult following and many celebrity endorsements. The cupcake bakery has since expanded into serving layered cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcake sundaes, cookie sundaes, and ice cream. At the Beverly Hills location, they have separate spaces for the cupcakes and the ice cream and other products that are next door to each other. The ice cream is extremely creamy and all the baked products are nothing but the best. The red velvet, black & white, and salty caramel are amongst the most popular cupcake flavors while the red velvet, peanut butter cup, and cookie dough are amongst the most popular ice cream flavors. 

2. Diddy Riese

Most UCLA students know all about the famous cookie store that is less than a mile away from campus. Besides their world famous cookies, Diddy Riese also serves ice cream, ice cream cookie sandwiches, brownies, and sundaes. The chocolate chip and white chocolate chip cookies are to die for!! The store is open from 11 a.m. to 12 am on Weekdays and from 12 p.m. Be sure to get there early as it always a long line, but it is worth the wait!!

3. MILK

The ice cream and bake shop is famous for its ice cream novelty products which are handcrafted from the freshest ingredients and locally sourced dairy and produce. MILK has two locations in Los Angeles: one on Beverly Boulevard and one on Silver Lake Boulevard. When you are there, be sure to get a macaroon ice cream sandwich, with the fruity pebbles and the red velvet being the most popular options!! The macaroon ice cream sandwiches make fantastic Instagram-worthy photos!!! 

4. California Donuts

There is never a bad time to have and enjoy a donut!! Located in Los Angeles’s Koreatown, California Donuts is open 24 hours every day and the best place to satisfy your donut cravings. The presentation of the donuts is nothing but the best (and make great Instagram photos too). Besides the classic donuts that one normally finds at any donut shop, California Donuts offers several unique flavors for their Specialty Donuts that are worth to try, including the maple bacon and the unicorn ones. You can’t leave the place without trying the Panda Donut, an Oreo donut that looks like a panda!! There are so many different flavors to choose from, there’s no need to hold back. 

5. The Pie Hole

Pie is an all-time American Classic Dessert. Once you step into this place, it is like entering heaven full of pies!! With multiple locations across Southern California (three within the city of Los Angeles) and even two stores in Tokyo, The Pie Hole serves various sweet and savory flavors of pie and everything is made from scratch. The family-run shop’s bestsellers are The Earl Green Tea and Mom’s Apple Crumble. 

6. Ridges Churro Bar

The only food truck to make this list, Ridges Churro Bar puts their twists on warm, crispy churros with vanilla soft serve ice cream. Besides The Cinnamon Sugar, a traditional churro sundae topped with Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, you can also get their other sundaes, all of which are served with vanilla soft serve ice cream, but have a unique tasty twist regarding the churros. Among these tasty twists include the Cookie Butter S’more, where the churro is covered in a cookie butter drizzle, chocolate dust and cookie crumble with a toasted marshmallow garnish; and the Strawberry Shortcake, where the churro is covered in a white chocolate drizzle and strawberry dust with a strawberry shortcake crumble garnish, to a name a few. 7. B Sweet Dessert Bar

This dessert bar on Sawtelle Boulevard is a hidden gem in Santa Monica. B Sweet Dessert Bar serves ice cream and other baked items but is known for their renown, mother-watering bread pudding and their cold brew coffees and teas (which they brew personally). As there are more than 50 different flavors of bread pudding, the place changes flavors weekly and customers get to choose what they want from the 6 available flavors of the week. Banana’s Foster, Red Velvet, and Banana Chocolate are among the most popular bread pudding flavors. It is always a long line there but definitely worth the wait. Be aware that the place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

8. The Bigg Chill

Like Diddy Reise, The Bigg Chill is very close to UCLA (less than two miles away from campus). The frozen yogurt shop offers more than 400 flavors (which change daily) and are made with the freshest and most natural ingredients. They offer fat-free and dairy-free options for those with dietary restriction too. For toppings, you have to get their famous vegan cookie dough. Don’t forget to take a photo of your frozen treats in front of their Instagram famous ‘The Bigg Chill’ Neon sign before you take your first bite!!

9. Cake Monkey Bakery

Everything at this bakery feels like a throwback!! One of their most popular items is the Cakewiches, their version of a Hostess Ding Dong in several different flavors like raspberry red velvet, black and white, and peanut butter and marshmallow. Along with the Cakewiches, the Chocolate & Hazelnut Babka, Pop Pies, and Brown Butter Pecan Pie are amongst the customer favorites. 

10. Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop

Literally right next door to the studio, where Jimmy Kimmel Live is taped, the famous chocolate company sells their famous chocolates (In addition to exclusive Ghirardelli Chocolate gifts) and has a soda fountain and ice cream shop. They offer everything from sundaes to shakes to ice cream to specialty drinks to baked goods, all of which are extremely rich in flavor. The Nob Chill Milkshake is to die for and is worth every calorie. The next time you are on Hollywood Boulevard, be sure to stop by for a wonderful treat!!
