College students simply don’t know how to cook. We can basically make ramen noodles and order pizza, so we rely on the dining hall and the much needed care packages from our parents. When dining hall options just don’t cut it, try these 15 easy comfort foods you can make in a microwave!
You’ll need:
Mix all dry ingredients together, then add in liquids and blueberries. Pour into a microwave safe mug, and place in the microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Homemade muffin sans oven!
You’ll need:
Melt the butter in the mug, and add all wet ingredients. Add cinnamon, and whisk. Add bread pieces and stir lightly until the bread has soaked up the mixture. Microwave for 60-80 seconds (until solid), and enjoy!
You’ll need:
Combine water and pasta in a microwave safe container, and place in microwave for 6 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes, until the pasta has absorbed all of the water. Add cheese and milk/butter, microwave for 30-45 seconds, and stir. No more powdered cheese packets!
You’ll need:
Coat mug with butter or spray to prevent the egg from sticking. Crack egg(s) into the mug and beat, adding milk if wanted. Season as needed, and microwave 30-45 seconds, or until all liquid is gone. You can also turn this into a breakfast sandwich if your dorm has a toaster by toasting a bread of your choice (english muffin is my personal go-to), adding meat and cheese, and your scrambled eggs. Much cheaper than buying a pre-made sandwich!
You’ll need:
Clean potato by scrubbing the outside. Poke with a fork all around for ventilation, and place on a plate in the microwave for 10 minutes, flipping the potato halfway through. Carefully remove from the microwave and partially cut the potato lengthwise, mashing the insides gently. Add butter and cheese as preferred, and microwave 30-45 seconds. Add additional toppings, and enjoy!
You’ll need:
Melt butter in the mug, and add all sugar. Stir, and add vanilla extract and egg. Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in chocoalte chips. Microwave for 1-2 minutes, or until fully cooked. Freshly baked cookie for one!
Okay, so this recipe isn’t the easiest, but if you happen to have these ingredients, you can make this mug of magic deliciousness.
You’ll need:
Spray mug with non-stick spray, and combine all dry ingredients. Add egg, and then wet ingredients. Microwave for 3 minutes. Just be sure to check every once in awhile, because mug cakes have a tendency to jump out of their containers.
You’ll need:
Whisk the nutella and the egg together in your mug. Add flour and mix until batter is smooth. Microwave 45-60 seconds. Let cool, and enjoy. If you have ice cream on hand, add a scoop on top!
You’ll need:
Spread chips out on plate, place optional toppings on chips, and coat with cheese. Microwave 1-2 minutes, and enjoy!
For those with a ~finer taste~ (or who just happened to have quiche once and loved it)
You’ll need:
Beat egg with milk, salt, and pepper in mug. Tear bread into small pieces and add to mixture. Add cream cheese, stir, and add pieces of ham. Microwave for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, and eat your masterpiece from the comfort of your bed!
For when Chipotle is too far from your bed.
You’ll need:
Put your rice, beans, and tomato-of-choice into your mug, stir, and nuke it for a minute. Add toppings, and fiesta.
Forewarning, you need cooked chicken (which you can buy at any grocery store). This one has three parts: the crust, the sauce, and the filling.
For the crust, you’ll need:
Mix salt, flour, and butter in a bowl. Drizzle water into mixture and swirl around. Gather and flatten dough.
For the sauce, you’ll need:
Mix all together.
For the filling, you’ll need:
Microwave veggies for 2 minutes, then drain. Combine chicken, veggies, and sauce.
To put it all together:
Roll the dough so it’s 1/4 inch thick. It’ll be crumbly, it’s fine. Use your mug to cut out a hole in the dough, and place it at the bottom. Use the rest of the dough to cover the sides. Pour in filling, and cover with a top layer of dough. Pinch edges together with a fork, and slit the top. Microwave 4-6 minutes until top crust is dry. Complicated? A little, but it’s worth it for chicken pot pie.
You’ll need:
Beat eggs in your mug, add flour, milk, cheese, and optional veggies. Add optional meat, and season. Microwave 1-2 minutes, checking every 15 seconds after 1 minute to see if it’s cooked to your liking.
I have no clue why anyone would want to eat this ever, but there are people who enjoy meatloaf. This one’s for you.
You’ll need:
Tear bread, place in a mug, and pour in milk and Worcestershire sauce. Allow bread to absorb the mixture. Add ground beef, onion, and seasoning. Mix. Microwave 4-5 1/2 minutes, or until meatload if firm and has no pink in the center. Enjoy (?) your meatloaf.
For your inner white girl. Fall is just around the corner!
You’ll need:
Melt butter in mug, and press crushed gingersnaps into bottom to form a crust. Separately mix the pumpkin puree, egg, milk, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice, then pour into mug with the crust. Microwave 2-5 minutes, checking to see if it’s finished by inserting a knife into the center (if it comes out clean, it’s done).
And finally, the best for last…
The ultimate comfort food.
You’ll need:
