10 Comedy Movies You Need To See That’ll Brighten Your Day

 

Watching comedy movies can be a great way to escape your stresses and worries and just have some good laughs. Whether you prefer animated/cartoon classics like Toy Story or The Incredibles or if you enjoy seeing hilarious actors like Will Farrell or Jim Carrey act their goofy selves, there are many comedy movies out there for you to love. Comedy movies can be a broad genre, however, so you’ll want to check on the movie to see what kind of comedy it is. There are drama-comedy blends “dramedies” which can be very enjoyable. There is also a big difference between family comedy movies and more raunchy comedies which are more built toward older teens and adults. This list of comedy movies has a mixture of them all so practically anybody should be able to find something they like! Here are 10 comedy movies you need to see that’ll brighten your day.

1. Shrek

If you prefer more light-hearted and hilarious movies then Shrek may be more up your alley. The animated, Pixar tale of an ogre paired with a hilariously annoying talking donkey on an adventure to reclaim his swamp from the nearby Lord. It’s an instant classic with its hilarious writing that gives both Shrek and Donkey great and loveable characters. A must-see for both the hilarity and fun adventures that follow Shrek and Donkey. It has all good light-hearted messaging about being confident in your own skin and accepting others for their faults which makes the movie heart-warming as well as hilarious.

2. Yes Man

If you enjoy Jim Carrey comedy movies then you can’t miss out on the hilarity of Yes Man. Essentially, the movie is pretty self-explanatory in that Jim Carrey finds himself unable to say “no” to anything. This leads to him, as you can expect, getting into a whole bunch of situations where instead of politely lying or declining something he just has to answer “yes.” It’s better to just experience the movie as a whole without too many spoilers so it will be left at that. Highly recommend giving this a watch when you want some hearty laughs!

3. Accepted

All college students can relate to this movie as a hilarious yet ideal college environment. When Justin Long realizes he doesn’t get accepted to any of the colleges he applied for he decides to start his own. It isn’t exactly supposed to be a real college just a way to get his parents off his back. But after realizing the fake web site for the college says they “accept everyone” they are met with many other students who were rejected from other schools just like them. They have to figure out a way to turn this fake college in an abandoned psychiatric facility into a legitimate school or risk all their parents finding out. It’s a hilarious movie that also touches on the harsh expectations that are had for students as they figure out what they want to do in life.

4. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Another relatable movie for students, the famous Ferris Bueller’s Day Off follows high school student Ferris Bueller as he takes the most epic “sick day” that anyone ever has. He brings along his girlfriend and his best friend while they go out to enjoy a day away from high school while avoiding the principal and their parents. This is on the all-time classics for comedy movies but never seems to get old no matter how many times you watch it!

5. Superbad

Superbad can simply be described as one of the most hilarious movies of all time. Yes, it is incredibly raunchy and not suitable for children. But this story follows Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as nerdy best friends and high school seniors who can’t justify going off to college as virgins. Not just that but they want to have a night of drinking and partying as opposed to their usual of playing video games in their parent’s basement. This amazing movie also features the famous “McClovin” and if you don’t know what that is, then turn this movie on immediately. If you like these kinds of movies and humor you absolutely will not be disappointed.

6. Meet the Parents

Ben Stiller fans should absolutely take a look at his many great comedy movies especially Meet The Parents. Ben Still takes the feared and exaggerated expectation of meeting your girlfriend’s parents to the next level as everything that could go wrong does. Robert Di Nero plays the girlfriend’s dad and does a hilarious and incredible job in interacting with Ben Stiller. It’s a fantastic comedy that can be enjoyed over and over again!

7. Up

If you’re one of the few people who haven’t’ seen Up then you likely at least know what it’s about. An older man, Carl Fredricksen, going on an adventure in his house that he floats around the world using hundreds of balloons. Carl brings with him (unintentionally) a local boy scout named Russell as he fulfills the dream of him and his late wife of traveling to this beautiful destination. Along the way, they meet a quirky dog that can talk with his specialized collar that adds another great level of hilarity to the movie. Although the movie has its hilarious moments it does have some heartfelt touches on love and relationships as Carl struggles to let go of his beloved wife and builds a strong, almost-fatherly connection with little Russell. If you want to cry from both laughter and touching moments then you should watch Up, and you won’t regret it.

8. I Love You, Man

The fantastic and hilarious duo of Paul Rudd and Jason Siegel makes I Love You, Man one of the all-time greatest for comedy movies. Paul Rudd realizes he doesn’t have any guy friends because he’s just always been better at and focused on relationships with girls. As he tries to make a change, he tries going on “guy dates” to make some new guy friends but eventually finds himself connecting with Jason Siegel as good bros. The comedy between these two incredible actors is so hilarious and pure gold that you have to love this movie!

9. School of Rock

School of Rock is an absolute classic for comedy movies and if you haven’t seen it then you’re really missing. One of Jack Black’s early comedy movies, he plays a burnt-out guitar player who is desperate for money or he’s going to be evicted. When his roommate isn’t home Jack Black answers the phone as him and accepts a substitute teaching position pretending to be his roommate. But as Jack Black starts to get to know the kids he teaches and sees how musically gifted they are he sees an opportunity. Form a band out of his classroom and win the Battle of the Bands contest! This movie is fantastic because not only is it hilarious it has some great heartfelt moments and messages like body positivity and expressing yourself despite your parent’s expectations. 

10. Step Brothers

The final and one of the greatest in comedy movies created so far is Step Brothers with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. These two guys make the most incredible and hilarious pair as they essentially play the same character of lazy, childish, and unemployed adults who still live with their parents. When these two are forced to live together as their parents marry it creates a hectic environment that starts to split their new family apart. Working together is the only way to keep their parents together and also results in them becoming not just step-siblings but best friends. It’s another great movie that is better to enjoy without much information just trust that it’s one of the funniest movies out there and should be enjoyed by everyone (who’s old enough).
