30 College Tips You’ve Never Been Told

By the end of high school most seniors have a vague idea of what to expect when they move away to college. You see movies that depict college, but nothing you see can truly prepare you for the life you are about to enter. Below are 37 college tips every freshmen should know!

1. It is okay to get home sick during your first month or so away at school.

Call you parents, cry if you need. It will get easier.

2. Do not buy your textbooks until after your first day of classes!!!

I know you will want to be extremely prepared, but wait. Half the time the professors will tell you cheaper ways to get the required books, or tell you that you wont be needing the book at all.

3. Organize and decorate your dorm room.

Dorms obviously are not the comfiest things to live in. However, by making it homey you will feel so much more comfortable.

4. Go to all the silly first week activities the school puts on!

You are bound to meet people who are just as uncomfortable as you.. Who knows, they could be your next best friend.

5. Also go to the involvement fair and sign up for at least one club.

Then if you decide in a few weeks you don’t have any interest, stop going.

6. Say yes to going out even when you have a paper due the next day.

Memories last a life time.

7. That being said, make sure you wake up the next morning ready to bust out that paper!

8. Find your group of friends and love them hard.

They quickly become your family.

9. But if you realize that group of friends isn’t for you, it is okay to separate yourself and find new.

10. Remember that everyone at school is trying to find themselves and grow.

Some people grow apart and some grow together.

11. Talk to that boy that you have a crush on in class!

Take the chance and meet him out over the weekend.  However, don’t get caught up in the relationship. If the time comes and he stops texting you back, move on! There are literally, “so many fish in the sea.”

12. Get a planner and use it!!

Write every single thing you have to do down and cross them off as you complete them.

13. Explore your college town!

Its your home for the next 4 years so go find the hidden gems!

14. That being said, be nice to the townies.

They all don’t hate us college kids as much as we assume.

15. Make connections. They will come in handy down the road.

16. Stay focused on your future, but don’t drown in it.

17. Get as many internships as possible.

I just finished my second year of college and am already on my third internship.

18. Update your resume periodically so when you need it, it will be ready and updated.

19. You will be poor at some point in college no matter how hard you try not to be.

20. That being said, always take the free food!

21. Go to class.

Even that 8am that doesn’t take attendance.

22. Make your social media accounts private!

Your grandma and potential employers don’t need to see your pictures from your wild weekend.

23. Speaking of your grandma, call her too!

24 Make time for yourself.

25. The freshmen 15 is real and pretty much inevitable.

26. However, try to work out when you can.

Even if that simply means walking to class instead of taking the bus.

27. You will fail tests no matter how smart you were in high school.

28. Find a spot on campus to study outside of your dorm room.

The change in scenery will help immensely when you are pulling your third all nighter of finals week and are about to lose your mind.

29. Finals week is as bad as everyone says.

Drink coffee and plan ahead. You will get through it.

30. Enjoy every single second of college, the good and the bad. It truly flies by.
