College Relationships And Everything You Need To Know About Them

If you’re like a majority of other college students across the world, I’m willing to bet any amount of money that you have heard the sentence, “You’re going to meet the love of your life in college” at least once before. At LEAST once. “College sweethearts” if you will.

I mean, who wouldn’t want that?

But, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s put things into perspective. No relationship is perfect, and in that sense, it’s safe to assume that before each successful college relationship grew to be that, they had trials and tribulations they had to overcome along the way. College relationships aren’t just a walk in the park; getting to know one another on a serious level with the many temptations and distractions you’re surrounded by isn’t as easy as it seems.

So here’s everything you need to know about college relationships in its entirety. With these in mind, you’ll greatly increase your chances at becoming the fairy-tale couple you’ve always dreamed of.

Understand That They Have Responsibilities

There’s always pictures floating around on Instagram and Twitter of pictures with college couples decked out in their school clothing, studying and seemingly just enjoying each other’s company. And you know the caption has to say “relationship goals”.

Although that experience is very much well a possibility in college, you must understand that things won’t be like that 24/7. You both will have tons of responsibilities and obligations in college, and you simply cannot expect someone to dedicate all of their time to your relationship. Don’t view it as them being too busy or refusing to make time for you. They’re simply just handling what’s on their plate! So don’t trip, give them space when needed, and you’ll be fine.

Communication Is Key

Communication is obviously important in all relationships, but it’s especially important in college relationships. Without it, the list of things that can go wrong are endless.

Like we previously mentioned in our last point, you won’t have all the time in the world to spend with your significant other, so a simple text every now and then letting them know that you’re busy and you have time at (x) point in the day can go a long way. There won’t be any confusion as to why or if you’ve ghosted them.

Beyond just that and more importantly, you have to get in the habit of communicating how you truly feel about your stance on the relationship. If things aren’t working out, say that. Don’t lead them on and have them thinking y’all are going in one direction when you aren’t. If you’re feeling them and want to take things further, say that.

It’s that simple. Say how you feel and leave your pride out of it. Things will be much easier on the both of you in the long run.

Avoid Comparisons

This can end up being a major downfall in college relationships. If you find yourself comparing your significant other to every other person you walk past on campus, it’ll make it tough to be completely satisfied and focused on your boyfriend/girlfriend and them only.

Vice versa, too. You should avoid finding yourself comparing who you are or what you bring to the table to those of your significant other’s past. That will only lead to problems.

Be comfortable in your position and simply enjoy what you have between the two of you. Any other thoughts or comparisons outside of the relationship isn’t necessary.

Take Your Time

Now that you have a closer look into college relationships, keep these tips in mind before meeting the person of your dreams. Don’t rush or force anything. Take it slow, play your cards right and let things naturally happen. You’ll thank yourself later, trust me.
