5 Cocktails For Beginner Drinkers

So, you’ve just turned 21 and your friends have invited you to a cocktail bar to celebrate your new legal status. The bartender asks for your order, and you freeze. You just realized you have no idea what to drink because you don’t have the slightest clue about cocktails!

You don’t want to go too hard and order a cocktail that is too strong, you can’t enjoy it. Well, have no fear! Here’s a list of five cocktails that every beginner drinker needs to know and can depend on.

1. Margarita

You literally can’t go wrong with a margarita. Whether it’s on the rocks or frozen, it’s the perfect summer drink that isn’t too strong but can definitely get you feeling loose. Its main ingredients are tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, but many bars like to put their own spin on it, like adding flavors such as strawberry or mango.

This cocktail is the perfect go-to if you’re just getting your feet into the drinking pool! It’s an easy order at the bar, and no one will think you’re just a beginner because everybody loves margaritas!

2. Amaretto Sour

If you’re like me and don’t like the taste of alcohol too much, but still want to get a little tipsy, then the Amaretto Sour is a great cocktail choice for you! This is a sort of girly cocktail in that it’s very sweet and light, so it’s perfect for beginners! Its ingredients contain a mix of Amaretto liqueur, simple syrup, and lemon juice.

It’s also usually garnished with an orange slice and/or a maraschino cherry. Truly simple and delicious. Most bars have Amaretto on deck so it’s a great go-to drink if you’re starting out!

3. Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is great if you don’t wanna look like a beginner drinker in front of your friends because it usually comes in a copper mug, which makes everything about it cooler than any other cocktail, and I’m not just talking about its temperature. It’s most often made with vodka, ginger beer, lime juice. Some bartenders even garnish it with mint leaves to give it a little extra crisp.

This was my personal favorite drink when I was starting to get into alcohol because it’s refreshing, and perfect for any season. You can never go wrong with a nice cold mug of Moscow Mule!

4. Bloody Mary

If you’re a fan of brunch and savory flavors, then the Bloody Mary is the cocktail for you! Aside from its main ingredients of tomato juice and vodka, it usually also includes a dash of Worcestershire sauce and Tobasco, pepper, and a stick of celery or olives as garnish. It’s a perfect daytime cocktail and even has a reputation for relieving hangovers!

5. Mojito

Made with rum, club soda, lime juice, sugar, and mint, the Mojito is a classic cocktail that tastes exceptional! You can even substitute the club soda for Sprite to hide the taste of rum and make it a bit sweeter. The only problem when it comes to Mojitos, however, is that some bars don’t have mint available, so they can’t properly make this drink.

This is a great cocktail for beginners, though, because the mint leaves you feeling super refreshed. Still, it might be a smart idea to have a back-up drink in mind in case the cocktail bar you’re at doesn’t have it available.
