15 Clothing Items You Should Add To Your Wardrobe This Fall

Fall has finally arrived, and it’s time to plan out your fashion goals this season! These fifteen fall clothing items are essential to have an amazing wardrobe and look great no matter what occasion! Stay warm and cozy this autumn while looking trendy 24/7!

1. Plaid Skirt or Pants

This fall, plaid is going to be huge and if you haven’t already seen stores stocking their shelves with it—brace yourself. Plaid is always popular during the colder months, mainly because plaid usually comes in a warm flannel material. But you don’t just have to reserve plaid for flannels!

This fall, add a plaid skirt or pants to your collection to keep you warm, cozy, and fashionable! Plaid skirts and pants are fantastic because they come in lots of different colors and styles and can be worn with almost anything! Pair it with an oversized sweater, a turtleneck, or even a sweatshirt to kick your style up a notch!

2. Combat Boots

Combat boots are always in style, which is why this fall is the perfect excuse to invest in a quality pair! The truth is, you often get what you pay for, so the more you spend, the better quality your shoes will be and the longer they will last!

Combat boots can be worn at any time of the year, but they are a fall essential! Combat boots are guaranteed to keep you warm and can be super cozy for the snow and rainfall! Some combat-style boots to consider investing in might be Doc Martens, Timberlands, or Frye boots. All of these brands are a bit on the pricy side, but, again, they will last you forever and you will be saving money in the long run!

3. Denim Jacket

Another essential for every closet at any time of the year is a jean jacket. I personally own about 6 denim jackets, all of which are different and that goes to show that there is a jean jacket style for everyone! The great thing about jean jackets is that they often come in multiple different colors and, just like denim pants, there is a fit for everyone.

Denim jackets can be worn with absolutely everything, and now that the denim-on-denim trend is coming back into style, you can wear it with every outfit! Having a jean jacket will definitely be worth it once you realize this will become your new go-to, everyday jacket!

4. Overalls

Overall shorts are always trendy in the summer, but this fall, take that trend into the colder months with full-length overalls! Similar to jumpsuits, overalls act as a full outfit, so it’s super easy to throw on when you don’t want to put a ton of effort into your outfit but still want to look cute.

Over the years, overalls have begun to be made in different materials such as corduroy and velvet, so if denim isn’t your thing, you can still participate in this cozy fall trend!

5. Sweater Dress

Ariana Grande is the perfect example of how a large sweatshirt can be worn as a dress. Ever since Ari has made this trend a thing, more and more brands have begun making sweatshirt style dresses so you don’t have to wear a giant sweatshirt as a dress.

But there are also hundreds of different styled sweater dresses including the oversized sweater look and knit dresses. Sweater dresses are perfect for fall because sometimes we just want to roll out of bed and put something cozy on and this does that for us! You can even dress this look up a bit more with some thigh-high boots or even pair it with some cute sneakers!

6. Shopper Bag

Again, shopper bags are fantastic year-round, but especially so in the fall months! Shopper bags are great because they are big enough to hold larger items. We typically start carrying around larger items this time of year, such as scarves. Having a shopper bag will allow you to bring these larger items, and they also just have a fall aesthetic about them.

7. Leather Jacket

Having a leather jacket is essential for every season as it goes with everything, but they can also be extremely warm and can amp up an otherwise dull outfit for those days where we sacrifice style for comfort.

Leather jackets can take our outfits from a solid 2 to a 10 and can make you feel more put together. Leather jackets are also a must for the colder nights when you want to go out but also want to look cute. When in doubt, wear a leather jacket!

8. Turtle Neck Tops

Turtle necks are on their way back into style and, besides being adorable, they are also essential for the fall months! When people think of a turtle neck, they often think of a chunky sweater that makes it feel like you’re chocking. And while those types of turtle necks have their time and place, other thinner versions will keep you comfortable and warm!

If turtle necks aren’t for you, opt for a mock neck top that has a high neck instead of covering the neck. Both turtle necks and mock neck tops can be worn with absolutely everything so it’s a good idea to grab a few in neutral colors so you can wear them often!

9. Corduroy Jacket

When I see corduroy anything, I automatically think of fall. To me, corduroy screams fall, especially because it often comes in autumnal colors. And with the 70s style making a comeback, corduroy in autumnal colors is more significant than ever, and it can be found everywhere! While wearing corduroy anything is perfect for fall, a corduroy jacket is a clothing item you should definitely add to your fall wardrobe! Having a corduroy jacket can keep you very warm, and everyone will be complimenting your fun jacket!

As an added bonus, you don’t need to spend a ton of money to get a corduroy jacket. Consider going to your local thrift store and pick one up! Vintage corduroy jackets are not challenging to find, and you’ll be the only one with that particular jacket!

10. Waterproof Boots

This one might be a bit of a no-brainer, but waterproof or water-resistant boots are essential to any fall and winter wardrobe. Many people don’t realize that while their boots may seem waterproof, they really aren’t and can make them fall apart much faster—and that equals money lost.

Yes, there are sprays you can use to protect your shoes, but that still doesn’t make them waterproof! If you want a fool-proof way (no pun intended) to keep your feet dry, avoid illness, and keep your shoes in one piece, invest in a good pair of waterproof or water-resistant shoes!

Lucky for us, not all rainboots are big and clunky anymore. Depending on where you live, rainboots may seem a little excessive or might be necessary, but there are now brands who offer Chelsea boot-styled rainboots along with knee-high ones! So even on the rainiest of days, you can still slay your outfit. Other popular brands that offer quality waterproof boots are Timberland, Sorel, Columbia, and Hunter.

11. Sherpa Jacket

Sherpa jackets have become very popular over the past couple of years because they are super comfy and it feels like you are wrapped in a blanket. Since sherpa jackets are getting more and more popular, there seems to be a rise in brands producing them, making them easy to find and more affordable.

Sherpa jackets can get up there in terms of pricing, but if you live in colder climates it might be a good idea to invest in a higher-quality jacket because you will likely be wearing it often! If you live in warmer climates, however, you might not need to spend a fortune on a sherpa jacket.

Just keep in mind that due to the material of sherpa jackets, it does not repel rain and snow and might even soak up the water and make the coat wet. If this is the case for you, just look for a jacket with a lining so it won’t soak all the way through to your clothes!

12. Comfy Jumpsuit

Just like overalls, jumpsuits are the perfect option for those days when you don’t want to spend a ton of time on an outfit. Or maybe you overslept! Since jumpsuits are just one piece, it is easy to throw on quickly and look cute in a short amount of time.

Jumpsuits are also often reminiscent of a onesie, so it’s like you’re wearing pajamas but look presentable at the same time! Instead of a jumpsuit made of stiffer material, look for one made of softer materials such as velvet, rayon, or polyester.

13. Heeled Booties

Heeled booties are an excellent way to make any outfit look more put together and professional. Heeled booties are a great way to elevate an outfit and take it from a 5 to a 10. Heeled booties can be worn at any time of the year, but are essential for fall!

Heeled booties don’t have to have a high heel to have this effect and can be as high or as short as you want! Heeled booties are often released in the fall months as well so there is no shortage of options! Heeled booties are also fantastic for more petit ladies; they don’t cover up the whole leg like knee-high boots would and make them look shorter, but the heel also gives a little height which we all love!

14. Oversized Blazer

Oversized blazers are going to be huge this fall, and everyone will be wearing them! Oversized blazers can already be found in stores in lots of different styles and colors. The key to any suit piece is that it has to fit well, so don’t buy a blazer 2 sizes too big because, while it will be oversized, it won’t look right on your frame. Instead, look for the oversized blazer style specifically as it is made to be oversized but fit in the shoulders so it won’t swallow you whole!

Oversized blazers are a great alternative to trench coats as they are often the same length but are a new take on the topcoat! Even if you don’t live in colder climates where heavy coats are a necessity, you can still rock this look with an oversized blazer in a more light-weight fabric.

15. Cozy Cardigans

Cardigans are another essential clothing item that you will see a lot of this fall. Cardigans are basically just button-up sweaters or open-front sweaters that are often worn over something else like a dress or shirt. However, brands are making thicker cardigans for the fall months that can be worn alone or over something else.

Cardigans are a great way to keep yourself warm on those days where it’s freezing in the morning, then warmer in the afternoons. Because they aren’t thick or heavy, you can easily store them away in your purse or bag and still have room for your other essentials!
