Cleaning Hacks That Are Grandma Tested And Approved

We can all admit that cleaning is not the most joyous thing to do, especially when trying to achieve a certain kind of clean. Luckily, the Grandmas of the world have pre-tested some cleaning methods for us. Try 15 of the best cleaning hacks that have been Grandma approved!

1. Wipe it with newspaper

Spray some plain water on your windows and give them a good rub down with newspaper. They will be streak-free enough to fool the birds! This is one of the little known cleaning hacks!

2. Boil it out

Imagine you’re eating a slice of Grandma’s famous blueberry pie…and drop some on your favorite shirt! Drizzle some boiling water directly onto the stain and watch it disappear.

3. Pour some Peroxide on it

Accidents happen and sometimes blood meeting fabric is the end result. Pour some hydrogen peroxide on the affected area and rinse with hot water after.

4. Toss in some denture tablets

Are lime scale and rust making your porcelain throne less than unsightly? Give this cleaning hack a try! Plop a denture tab or two into the bowl and let it rest over night. The next day, give it a quick scrub and flush for a clean that is fit for royalty.

5. Shine it up

After cleaning your faucets, grab a sheet of wax paper and buff them out. They will shine like nobody’s business! This is one of the most helpful cleaning hacks!

6. Pick at it

Kitchen appliances are great but have pesky little crevices where gunk can hide. Keep them clean by covering a toothpick with a thin cloth to easily pick out anything that does not belong.

7. Bust out some Ammonia

If you have an odd smell lurking, place a bowl of ammonia up somewhere high in the room for a short while and then dispose. The ammonia will cancel out any scents that make your senses cringe.

8. Freeze it off

Gum can get anywhere…clothes…carpet…hair. Take an ice cube and apply it directly to the gum, allowing it to harden and then gently remove it. Wash out any left over residue with warm soapy water. This is one of the most commonly needed cleaning hacks!

9. Just steam it

Cleaning out the microwave can sometimes be a painstaking process but this hack can make it so much easier. Add 1 cup of water to 1 cup of vinegar in a microwave safe container like ceramic or glass. Make sure it won’t boil over! Microwave for 5 minutes and let it rest for 5 minutes before opening the door. Wipe down the inside with a sponge and hot water for a microwave that looks as good as new.

10. Oil it all over

Wood furniture is delightful but can sometimes use a beauty booster. Combine olive oil and lemon juice and give it a polish to overcome the dullness.

11. Sprinkle it with baking soda

If a greasy mess is getting you down, clean it up with some baking soda. Directly apply baking soda to the greasy surface and then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Get rid of extra residue with warm soapy water. Ta-da!

12. Rub a little onion on it

Rust is the arch nemesis of good cutlery. Cut an onion in half and rub it along the blades of your knives to get rid of those rotten rust stains.

13. Add some lemon and a touch of sunshine

Plastic storage containers have changed the way everyone does leftovers. But how do you get the stains and smells out after spaghetti sauce has sat in there for a few days? Clean the container and then wipe the inside with lemon juice. Let it sit in direct sunlight for a while to allow the lemon and the rays to work their magic before washing it out as normal.

14. Sweep it away

Dust and baseboards don’t mix and neither do cobwebs and ceiling corners. Attach a towel over the end of a broom to easily clean up the parts of your house that are back-breakers or just too high to reach.

15. Chalk it up to dehumidify

Sometimes closet spaces can become humid and a tad musty, but this hack can help! Hang bundles of chalk in your closet to absorb moisture and prevent awkward smells from developing.
