‘Classic’ Movies To Watch During Quarantine

While we are all experiencing quarantine and are staying inside, it is a good time to revisit some ‘classic’ movies. I guess what really makes a movie a ‘classic’ is that it is said to be so good, and that everyone should watch it. Or, it really has a story to tell and we can learn something from the characters within the movie. What’s great about movies is that these so called ‘classics’ can still be considered just as worthy of watching as they were as the time they came out. Here’s some great ‘classic’ movies to watch while in quarantine.

1. Bridesmaids

Yes, Bridesmaids came out less than 10 years ago. But, it should still be considered a ‘classic’ of our generation for a lot of reasons. Let’s start with the fact that it has two of Saturday Night Live’s absolute funniest cast members in it – Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig. They were always hysterical together on SNL, so obviously we see that in Bridesmaids. But, it also has Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, and Wendi McLendon-Covey – so the whole Bridesmaids squad is amazing. We can learn a lot from this movie – jealousy, friendship, believing in yourself, love, etc. Bridesmaids is one movie guaranteed to keep you laughing the whole way through, and maybe even cry a little bit at the wedding scene too.

2. Titanic

Remember thinking Titanic was the longest movie ever? Now, we watch 3 hour long or close to 3 hour long movies all the time, and it feels a normal amount of time. But, Titanic was always that original, long movie that you kept watching. Since we are in quarantine, we can sit in bed or on our couch and watch Titanic for 3 hours whenever we want to. Here’s to reliving all the tears, love, sadness and romance that Titanic once brought us before.

3. He’s Just Not That Into You

Another movie that came out in the 2000’s – but should be considered a ‘classic’ for a few reasons. If you are a fan of romantic comedies, or comedy in general, then you know a few faces from this movie. Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Kevin Connolly, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper – that is quite the cast for one movie. This movie is funny, heartbreaking, powerful and relatable. As the lives of all these individuals come together somehow in Baltimore, we can find ourselves relating to and understanding some of the characters.

4. Mamma Mia!

If you saw “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” that came out 2 years ago, chances are you saw Mamma Mia! that came out in 2008. For all the movies that are also musicals out there, Mamma Mia! has made itself a ‘classic.’ Starting with the Abba soundtrack throughout the entire movie, Mamma Mia! has left us singing along the entire time watching it. Aside from the soundtrack, the storyline of this movie is wonderful and unforgettable.

5. The Breakfast Club

We all have seen The Breakfast Club or at least heard of it and probably wanted to check it out. Now is the time to watch it if you haven’t. This is without a doubt considered a ‘classic’ along with a lot of John Hughes’ movies. Through this movie, we learn a lot about a group of people’s different lives and stories while they are all in detention together.

6. Good Burger

“Welcome to Good Burger, home of the good burger, can I take your order?” If you grew up in the 90’s and watched Nickelodeon, then you probably watched All That or Kenan & Kel at some point. And, I am so glad I grew up with both of those shows. When growing up, watching All That and Kenan & Kel were the best. Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell introduced us to true comedy on Nickelodeon and also gave us the movie “Good Burger.” If you haven’t seen Good Burger in years, now is a good time to watch it again.

7. Pretty In Pink

Just like The Breakfast Club, “Pretty In Pink” stars Molly Ringwald too. This movie can make you cry, smile and dance along to one of the best movie soundtracks ever. Molly Ringwald who plays Andie stars as Duckie’s (Jon Cryer) best friend. Andie is also interested in Blane (Andrew McCarthy.) Even though Blane and Andie like each other, their clashing friend groups are convinced it won’t work cause of the differences in their popularity and where they come from – which is totally unfair, and through this movie, we see them fight for their love for each other despite what anyone thinks at first. We also learn from Pretty In Pink just how amazing Molly Ringwald’s pink 1950’s Karmann Ghia car is, and how she makes it look so easy and cool to sew your own prom dress together. Rewind to the 1980’s through and through with Duckie’s dancing / singing scene in the record store to Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness”, great wardrobe (and sunglasses) and Pretty In Pink’s soundtrack.

8. Mean Girls

I don’t know if we will ever stop saying the phrase, “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink.” The 2004 movie Mean Girls taught us a lot. Written by Tina Fey, “Mean Girls” follows Cady’s (Lindsay Lohan) journey through high school after moving to America from Africa. She deals with going to a new school, and facing what high school seems to be all about, including cliques and popularity. This movie feels real, when it comes to bullying, trying to fit in, and overall how people try to outdo each other with being popular. It’s the best mix of drama and comedy, and is a ‘classic’ movie to watch during quarantine because we haven’t stopped saying “fetch” or quoting “Mean Girls” since it first came out.

What movies do you consider to be ‘classics’? Have you watched any of these movies during quarantine or before? Let us know what your thoughts are on these movies in the comments!
