Every couple of years I would cut my hair short (grazing shoulder length), Then I grow it out until it was very long and the cycle continued. It was only recently that I decided I was going to keep my hair at a shorter length permanently. I think shorter hair is a great idea for me because it’s more manageable, off my neck and, of course, looks healthier without the dead ends. But I just realized that I usually either have my hair down or in a ponytail, with the latter being the most frequent of the two hairstyles. I mean, a ponytail is literally the world’s easiest hairstyle but for far too long it has been the only one in my arsenal. So, here is a list of easy hairstyles for short hair, for both me and you, so everyone has more than one hairstyle they gravitate towards.
If you have recently cut your hair and miss wearing a braid, but your hair is too short or layered for a singular braid, then this cute and easy hairstyle is for you. I do sometimes miss having my long side braid. It was my 2nd most worn hairstyle. But sadly, my hair is just barely long enough to do one braid and it all falls out in a matter of minutes. This double french braid hairstyle is super easy. All you do is part your hair down the middle and then french braid towards the back of your head. You could also pull at the sides of each braid if you wanted it to look a little more full or loose. While this is an easy hairstyle, it might also be time-consuming depending on how fast you braid, so that’s always something to keep in mind. I’m super excited to try this out since it looks relaxed but also chic and put together for a day of running errands or classes.
Sometimes curling short hair makes us look like we either got a bad perm or we suddenly became 10 years younger. I have found that for curling my short hair, loose curls that soon turn into waves are best. It gives me a different style, frames my face, and doesn’t shorten my already chopped hairdo. You can, of course, achieve this style with a curling wand or hair straightener before you head out for the day, but if you don’t want to spend extra time in the morning or put more heat on your hair, there is always the option of doing it the night before. Before you go to bed, twist your hair into mini buns and pin them with bobby pins. In the morning you will have light and loose waves that took almost no extra time out of your already busy day.
If you feel like you need to bling or dress up your short hairdo, the easiest way to do that is with a statement hair clip. You could put the clip on a half-up style or you could use the clip to accent a low bun and help keep in flyaways. Or, if you are like me and have a side bang, you could always use a chic hair clip to pin your bangs back. A statement hair clip looks more polished than having to resort to the constant hair tuck or giving up and throwing your hair up into a ponytail. It’s also probably the easiest and chicest hairstyle on this list. Literally, all you have to do is simply put in a large, noticeable hair clip, which will act like jewelry for your hair, making this style so chic and effortlessly fabulous.
A lot of the time short hair is too short to fit into one braid. If your hair is just long enough to pull the style off I think it looks really cute but for the rest of us, we have to resort a half-up braid. I think this style is really cute and there are numerous variations on the hairstyle. Essentially you separate your hair into two main sections (a top part and then a bottom part that will be left under the braid). Then, you braid the top part in whichever style you like whether it be a 3-strand, fishtail, dutch, or another braid variation of your choice. This style helps with my braided hair fascination and whenever I wear this style I seem to forget about once having a long side braid.
If our hair is too short to braid, then it is also too short to all be put into a bun. Or at least a bun where it all stays together without cans of hairspray. A fantastic hairstyle for bun envy is half-up space buns. This Instagram worthy hairstyle is actually super easy to copy if you have shorter hair. First, you separate your hair into a top part and a bottom part (the bottom section will be left out of the buns). Next, you will separate the top part into two equal sections. After pinning one of those sections to the side (so it’s out of your way), you will twist up the section of hair that’s in your hands and then wrap the hair into a bun. Secure this bun with either hair ties or elastics. Repeat for the other top section and you have your easy half-up space buns! You can leave the bottom part of your hair down normally or you could curl it for some extra chicness.
This would be a great hairstyle for me because, as I mentioned before, I have side bangs that always seem to get in my face. This also looks like an easy hairstyle since you just pull back the chunk of your bangs that are bothering you, braid them halfway, and then pin them back with bobby pins. You could use any style of braid and even do both sides of your hair if you have to focus on something and need all of your hair away from your face.
