Cat Eye Makeup Tutorial

The cat eye look was a very popular one at Fashion Week in NYC last week, and it’s no wonder why. This make up style is flattering on pretty much everyone and it gives you a sultry aura that other looks can’t match. But for someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup or who has little knowledge of makeup, it  can be daunting to try. But using this tutorial you’ll be able to rock the look and see why everyone is so crazy about it. The best kind of eyeliner to use for this look is liquid, which I know is hard, but with some practice you’ll be as good as the pros.

Starting in the middle of your upper lid, make a line as close as possible to your lashes using your eyeliner, which will determine the thickness of your liner. The thicker it is, the more dramatic it will be. If you’re new to the cat eye, you’ll probably want to keep the line thinner for a more subtle look, which also translates better in the daytime. This step could be difficult to make the line straight. If you need to, you can make short strokes, or just one long on.

Starting from the inner corner of your eye, draw a fine line that connects to the other one you just drew. You want to make sure that the line is even, so you can use some Q-tips and make up remover if you see any stray marks.

Now it’s time for the wing. Start at the last lash and draw a line outward. You can decide how long and what the angle is.

After the wing is drawn, add another line that comes from the wing tip back to your upper lash line. You should now have a triangle on the side of your eye. If you want it to be thick, make the triangle bigger, so that it ends around the middle of your lash line (aka the tip of the triangle will be as high as the middle of your lash line). For a less dramatic look, have the the triangle end at the outer edge of your lash line.

Fill in your triangle using your liner.

Add mascara to your look and you’re finished! If you want to add a little eye shadow or anything feel free, but you’ll want to keep it fairly simple and let your eyes be the focus of your face. The subtle version is a great daytime look and you can always ramp it up and make it bigger when you go out at night. Next step: smokey cat eye!
