10 Cardio Workouts You Need To Try This Fall

Cardio is an essential part of any workout routine. But many times, cardio is seen as mundane, strenuous activities, like running on a treadmill. There are a ton of ways to get a cardio workout into your routine, which means you can tailor it to be something you enjoy and even look forward to.

Even if you don’t have the money or time to go to the gym on a daily basis, you can still find new and creative ways to put a cardio workout into your routine. Many cardio workouts can be done without expensive equipment. Don’t let the fitness gurus on social media fool you: you don’t need a personal trainer or a pricey gym membership for a quality cardio workout. All you need is some motivation and some creativity.

If you’re looking for new ways to incorporate cardio workouts into your workout routine, here are ten cardio workouts you need to try this fall!

1. Cycling

Cycling is a great way to get outside and get moving if you’re looking for a cardio workout this fall. Get your bike out of your garage and go for a ride around your neighborhood or hometown.

You can also do some research to find some bike trails in nature parks near your home. It’s a great way to explore new places and experience nature. Cycling is also a great cardio exercise to do with a group of friends, if you’re not a big fan of exercising on your own.

2. Swimming

Even after you close up your pool for the summer, swimming can still be a good cardio workout if you can find a gym with a pool. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something that’s not super harsh on your joints because swimming is a low impact cardio workout.

In addition to being a cardio workout, swimming can be a strength workout for a ton of different muscle groups.

3. Rollerskating

Rollerskating seems to have picked up some traction recently, with many people purchasing roller skates online while in quarantine during COVID-19 and a rise in popularity of rollerskating videos on Tik Tok. Whether it’s still a trend or not, rollerskating can be a fun and different way to get in a cardio work out.

It’s a good choice if you’re looking to pick up a new skill or hobby. You can rollerskate at a local rink or just around your neighborhood if you own your own skates.

4. Power Yoga

Power yoga is a strenuous and fitness-based approach to yoga that focuses on strength and flexibility. If you’re a fan of yoga, this could be good choice for a cardio workout.

Some local gyms or yoga studios may offer power yoga classes. Or, if you’re looking for something less costly or more time flexible to fit into your day to day schedule, there are plenty of options for online power yoga classes. This way, you can pick and choose power yoga classes that work for your ability and schedule.

5. Dance Classes

You don’t need to be a professional or first-place-winning dancer to make dancing part of your cardio workout routine. Many dance studios offer drop in classes for different dance styles like ballet, jazz, and modern. This could be a good option if you used to be a dancer or you’re looking for something new.

There are also people online who choreograph dance workouts to songs from Broadway musicals, which is a great choice if you’re a theatre nerd who’s looking for a cardio workout.

6. Jumping Rope

Jumping rope is a great option for a cardio workout if you’re looking for something low cost that you can do without a gym or lots of expensive equipment. You can find a jump rope for as little as under $10 at some stores and you can jump rope in your home or in your front yard.

If you’ve never done a jump rope workout before, there are plenty of videos and other resources online that can give you a place to start.

7. Trampoline Jumping

Not all workouts need to take place at the gym. If you’re looking for something more exciting than going for a run, see if you have a trampoline gym in your area.

Jumping on trampolines can be a great and different way to get a cardio work out in. It’s also way more fun with friends, so it’s a good option if you’re looking for a group workout.

8. Spin Class

If you typically ride your bicycle for a cardio workout but you’re looking for something to do when the weather gets cold, a spin class can be a good solution to that.

Taking a spin class at a local gym or in your own home can work out the same things riding a bike would without having to be outside. It’s a great way to work up a sweat even as the weather gets cold.

9. Power Walking

Power walking around your neighborhood can be a good cardio workout. It’s less strenuous than going for a run, but is still a great way to get moving if you’re looking for a cardio workout that’s easy to do with limited time or equipment. Unlike some fitness classes that can be an hour or longer, you can adjust your power walking workout to fit in your personal schedule.

10. Rowing

If you have a local lake or creek near your house, see if you can rent a kayak or canoe and get your cardio workout in by rowing. In addition to being a cardio workout, it’s also a good way to workout muscles in your arms and back. It’s a solid option if you like being outdoors and in nature.

If you’re not into exercising outside, look into getting a rowing machine. It’ll give you the same benefits in the comfort of your own home.
