Despite everyone always telling you, when summer finally hits, that you should play outside and get some much needed fresh air, I say to ignore all that sound advice and instead focus on what really matters, investing your time and energy in all these awesome upcoming summer video games! (No one will notice if you were to lock yourself in your room for the next three months.)
Initial Release Date: April 23, 2019
Mortal Kombat 11 is one of many upcoming (albeit not) summer video games developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment (can you believe that they have actually managed to make it to eleven of these gruesome fighting games). And, as one would assume, it is a direct sequel to 2015’s Mortal Kombat X.
The game is set to be released worldwide on for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Initial Release Date: June 4, 2019
Unknown to some, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth is a dungeon crawler role-playing video game published, for the Nintendo 3DS, and developed by Atlus (believe it or not, people still play with their 3Ds). As well, it is a spin-off of the Persona series and a direct sequel to Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.
Originally, Persona Q director Daisuke Kanada had considered the game to be the foundation for a spin-off series rather than an actual standalone project. Not only that, but due to the positive reception of Persona 5, Atlus took it upon themselves to create a Persona Q sequel utilizing the cast of Persona 5 (confusing, isn’t it).
Initial Release Date: April 26, 2019
Although a tad bit of an earlier release than the rest of the summer video games on this list, Days Gone is an upcoming video game, based on survival and exploration, developed by SIE Bend Studio exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
Set in a post-apocalyptic open world and played from a classic third-person perspective, players take command of Deacon St. John. St. John seems to be a former outlaw who became a bounty hunter, choosing a life on the road in order to survive. Again, if you love horror, you definitely want to check this one out.
Initial Release Date: May 14, 2019
Developed by Avalanche Studios, Rage 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter and a direct (long awaited) sequel to 2010’s rage. The game will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (sorry Switch owners).
Interestingly enough, players will take control of the last ranger known as Walker. Walker will have to go through numerous trials and tribulations in order to survive in a world, following the hit of an asteroid, that is littered with mutants. I must admit, I am quite intrigued.
Initial Release Date: June 21, 2019
Original PlayStation fanboys and girls rejoice because this classic returns as one of the most anticipated summer video games. However, for those of you who have no idea what it is that I am actually referring to, CTR is an upcoming (remastered) kart racing game developed by Beenox and published by Activision (the original hit was developed by none other than world-famous Naughty Dog).
Hold onto your horses because this title launches this summer on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
As you already know, summer video games aren’t exactly people’s priority when the hot air hits, but you should nevertheless stay on the lookout for these great titles.
