15 Signs You Don’t Know Your Alcohol Limit

Knowing your alcohol limit is important to your health and safety. Drinking beyond your limit can end up ruining your fun. Here are signs that indicate that you still need to learn your limit!

We’ve all been there; we’ve all had one of those nights where you drink a little too much. However, when “one of those nights” turns into every time you drink, it is a clear indication that you don’t know your alcohol limit. Here are 15 signs that prove you don’t know your limit:

1. You ALWAYS end up crying

Partying is meant to be fun. If you find yourself crying during social events, you are drinking too much. Drinking away your feelings indicates that you are abusing your limit.

2. You kiss people you would never kiss when sober

Drunk hookups are nothing to be ashamed of, unless you find yourself interacting with an ex or cheating on your partner. Not being able to understand your actions shows that you don’t know your alcohol limit.

3. You get into fights and become aggressive

If alcohol makes you aggressive instead of social, you are abusing it. You should not continue to drink past the point of understanding your feelings and actions.

4. You never wake up the next morning without a hangover

It’s never fun to wake up nauseous or with a massive headache. The best way to avoid hangovers is to simply drink less (and stay hydrated).

5. You puke, a lot

Puking is your body’s way of saying that you can’t handle the alcohol. It is important that you learn your limit as vomiting is dangerous and can get you kicked out of parties.

6. You constantly feel upset after drinking

Overconsumption of alcohol often leads to feelings of depression. If you find that you regularly feel overwhelming sadness during and after consumption, you need to drink less.

7. You have to leave the party early

If you make your friends leave early, you drank too much. Plain and simple.

8. You can’t remember ANYTHING that happened

Blacking out due to alcohol is dangerous. Being vulnerable to danger and not being accountable for your actions is not what drinking should result in.

9. You make poor decisions, like really poor

It is not uncommon to do things when drunk that you wouldn’t normally do. If you find yourself regretting things you have said and done, you shouldn’t be drinking to that extent. Alcohol is not an excuse to act in ways that are unfair to others or yourself.

10. You wake up sore and with bruises

When being drunk leads to falling everywhere, you drank past your limit. This can lead to injuries, and you’ll also regret drinking so much in the morning.

11. You need medical help

Needing emergency assistance is proof that you don’t know your limit. No one wants to end their night in an ambulance/hospital due to drinking. If this happens, it is a good idea to be drinking a significant amount less.

12. You find yourself reliant on alcohol to be social

Alcohol dependency is a real thing! If you find yourself unable to socialize without getting completely wasted, you’re using alcohol for all the wrong reasons.

13. You spend too much money

Over-spending and blaming it on alcohol is a really bad sign. Drinking less is something to consider to prevent this from becoming habitual.

14. When you say, “I’m not going to get drunk tonight”, but somehow end up really drunk

And then you end up thinking, “how did this happen!”.

15. When you genuinely don’t want to stop drinking, even when you know you should

Once you’re drunk, stop drinking. Whether it’s because you don’t want your drunk to fade, or because the alcohol just doesn’t taste as bad, drinking past the point of being too drunk shows you are abusing your limit.
