Meeting a Celebrity is intimadating in any environment. But have you ever flown to a different country to meet a celebrity? Last year, I took my Netflix obsessed self and flew from Toronto to Florida to meet the cast of the TV show Once Upon a Time. Here’s why I have no regrets.
This was my first vacation without any parental authority. No one to tell me where to go, what to eat, what to spend my money on, or how crazy I was for flying across a country to meet a celebrity. I was 20 years old and free. Having no parents also taught me responsibility. I had to make decisions for myself, book hotels, and manage my money. It was a learning experience that I recommend to everyone.
Although I didn’t go with any parents, a few gal pal’s did tag along. I had a friend from Newfoundland and another from Vancouver meet me in Orlando for a much needed TLC reunion. We spent most days sitting poolside with a good book and tanning lotion we convinced ourselves actually had SPF. We distracted ourselves from the anxiety of meeting the celebrities.
Before we knew it it was day four and it was time to head down to the convention room of our hotel. We get our wrist bands, push ourselves through the sea of cosplayers, and get into the photo op line. For the next twenty minutes it was constant chaos around us and inside us.
People cried of happiness, others were in shock, and I just patiently waited until I was close enough to get that first glimpse of Colin O’donoghue…and then I stopped breathing. He was perfect because of course he was and the photo op was over before it had the chance to start.
It was all worth it after those five minutes, the trip, the money, all of it. My Bff’s and I headed to dinner after that meet and greet and couldn’t stop smiling the entire time.
No one flies to Orlando and doesn’t visit Disney World, if you do, you’re missing out because it truly is the happiest place on earth. I was coming off one of the most amazing experiences of my life and ending this trip with a visit to Disney was truly the cherry on top.
Here is where I really had to exercise my responsibility of money management because literally everything in Disney is the cutest and you immediately need in your life.
Although the state I flew to to meet a Celebrity had a Disney World not all places do, but make sure if you ever venture on this journey like I did, that you research fun stuff to do where you’re staying just to make the trip a little extra special!
AND THAT’S IT! One of the best experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re from Toronto, like me, or are obsessed with Drake, like the rest of the world, then you know the phrase YOLO (you only live once). Yes, I know it’s a little outdated but after this whirlwind of a vacation I realized its one of the most accurate phrases ever.
I learned so much about myself on this trip, had the opportunity to bond with friends who live on the other side of the country, meet new friends, and fed my TV bingeing obsession. If you ever have a crazy idea to fly across or to another country, even if it’s not meet a celebrity, do it. You’ll have the time of your life.
