10 Healthy Post-Workout Smoothie Recipes

Post-workout smoothies are natural, sweet and delicious. A good post-workout smoothie helps replenish muscle “fuel”, and restores glycogen levels in the muscles. Smoothies are made with fresh and frozen fruits, with endless combinations (banana, strawberry, mango, etc.) They can be blended with water, milk or any kind of juice. Easy to make and digest, these smoothie recipes offer simple sources of protein you need to build and relax your muscles, with all-natural sugars in fruits. Here are 10 healthy post-workout smoothie recipes to keep you feeling full and energized after your workout!

1. The “Green” Smoothie

The “Green” smoothie is usually made with 3 cups of leafy greens, including spinach, kale, romaine, collards, and more. It also includes at least a cup of fruits in order to make it sweeter, while the phytonutrients in the greens boost your body’s immune system.

2. The “Pink Berry” Smoothie

The “Pink Berry” Smoothie is an all-fruit smoothie, blended with ice, orange juice, or milk. I usually add any sort of frozen berries- including blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and more.

3. The “Chocolate Peanut Butter” Smoothie

The “Chocolate Peanut Butter” is all in the name. The smoothie is usually made with milk, cocoa powder, bananas and peanut butter, but the recipe can be in any order. It’s a great, tasty, chocolatey way to get in some protein after a workout. You can also had a little bit of spinach to get your greens in!

4. The “Un-BEET-able” Smoothie”

The Un-BEET-able” Smoothie is the BEST to drink after a workout. Beets boost your stamina and include great health benefits. In this smoothie, you need a quarter of a cup of beets, frozen fruit, orange or lemon juice, and yogurt or milk. Drinking this prior to your workout is also a great idea, as it helps you last longer during your workout.

5. The “Blueberry Blast” Smoothie

“Blueberry Blast” is an all blueberry smoothie, packed with anti-oxidants with a sweet taste. Add milk or yogurt and a teaspoon of honey for a perfect smoothie.

6. The “Subtle Hint of Spinach” Smoothie

For many people, greens aren’t always the best tasting flavours for a sweet smoothie. So, I created this “subtle hint” of spinach, with only one cup of spinach- among a range of fruits and other vegetables to make a tasty smoothie.

7. The “Thirst Quencher” Smoothie

A great power smoothie for after a workout, especially during a hot day, is a sweet, cool blend of oranges, apples, carrots, celery and cucumbers, blended with orange juice or ice.
