Toronto is known as a Multicultural city with a lot of life and thing to do. This beautiful place can offer you a variety of restaurants, culture, history, bars, parks and much more. But near the city, you can get an amazing getaway. Here are fun and affordable day trips from Toronto!
Many people might not know the beautiful cliffs on the shore of Lake Ontario. During Summertime, it is filled with families that take advantage of the small beach. The park is great for a picnic overlooking the lake, as there is a barbecue area. The best of all, it’s just about 45 minutes away from the city.
This little town offers many ideas for day trips, excursions, and enjoyment. Just follow the Lake Ontario and you will enjoy the view. The Historic Centre is located in between 3 to 4 kilometers of Niagara Falls. It’s small but charming with many Ghost stories and good places to eat. If you love wine, you also can find many good wineries, where you can spend a day to totally relax.
One of the most touristic places near the city. Just 1 hour and 30 minutes from Toronto, you can visit the magnificent Falls. This gorgeous landmark will give you a rush of history, entertainment, and adventure. You can find at the falls tour, casinos, zip-lining, wineries and much more. The falls are absolutely stunning to watch from the Canadian side rather than from the New York side so make sure to stop and check them out!
If your idea is to be close to the city, Lake Ontario is placed in a very tranquilizing, deep blue pleasure, a city that is constantly developing, friendly people, incredibly tidy and respectful traffic. The dawns in this place are magical you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape and enjoy the endless tour of its thousand beautiful islands.
One of the most beautiful areas of lakes, where you can rent a cabin or stay at a resort. The landscaping is breathtaking. Although it is made up of more than 1,600 lakes, Muskoka is more related to Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, and Lake Rousseau. Place of thousands of cottages by the lake, even some that can only be reached by boat, there you will understand why people take the time to get there. There is a certain vibe that attracts locals and visitors alike. Enjoy fresh produce, fresh fish and seafood and the fresh air of the lake.
This place is known as the home to the longest freshwater beach in the world. It’s the ultimate expression of cottages in the countryside, and is only two hours from Toronto. This stretch of sand, 9 miles, is home to a lively beach, which also has a pier to walk and all the hype you can imagine. Also, you will not believe that these brilliant blue waters are in Ontario. It is a perfect place to spend a relaxing weekend, enjoying the cottage for a night of grilled sausages and a classic card game.
Algonquin Park offers a rustic experience in remote areas to the city’s inhabitants just three hours northeast of Toronto. This Hidden nature offers a fantastic view. You easily can spend the day fishing in the water, looking for moose or simply watching wildlife pass by. Whether you explore on foot or by canoe, you will easily want to spend a few days sunbathing in the sparkling waters and next to towering trees. Although there are few cabins in the area – about 300 cottages for rent throughout the park – there are also shelters and camping sites that offer you a place to rest after a day of exploration.
Whether you want a boat trip or rafting, a wine tasting or a food tour, the mix of urban and city life here is something you’ll want to visit again and again. The 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River offer a different vibe in their cottages. Then, you will be in the middle of a unique archipelago that offers you a great place to relax or practice all your favorite outdoor activities. It can be as relaxing or as adventurous as you want when you are planning your next summer getaway.
About 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, you’ll appreciate being close to the water no matter where you go. In fact, Kawartha means “bright waters and happy lands,” so do not be surprised to realize you can enjoy everything from fishing and boating, to riding a four-wheel drive and playing golf. No matter if yours is a cottage or camping, the Kawartha Lakes offer something for all types of travelers.
This place is absolutely my favorite to camp or spend a day on the beach in summer. Just two hours away from Toronto you can find this town a great getaway. Sandbanks Provincial Park is located in Prince Edward along with other parks, beaches, and wineries. This English region has a small Village called Wellington that is one of the most beautiful places to visit.
You can visit the small town of Kingston, which is famous in Ontario for 3 reasons: It was the first capital of the Province of Ontario (1841), its prison Kingston Penitentiary (now closed as a prison but converted into a tourist attraction – you can take a tour), and Queens University, one of the best in the country. Kingston is beautiful in summer.
This town is 40 minutes away from Toronto, it can offer different options for a great relaxing getaway. You can find on your way, beautiful wineries like Applewood Farm, Willow Springs and Gallucci for a wine tasting. Also, if you like farms you can visit Lionel’s Farm where you can enjoy their pet zoo, horses, and wagon collection. If you are looking for an outdoor and nature visit Bruce’s Mill Conservation where you can camp, and enjoy a chill time with friends and family.
A good escape plan close to the city is Hamilton, where you can find the Royal Botanical, this gem with multiple sites across the greater Hamilton area that encompass beautiful and unique horticulture sites to miles of walking trails with views that overlook the waterfront and Niagara Escarpment. You can visit this place in any season and be fascinated by the landscaping. Also, stop by the Hamilton Falls. They are stunning and it’s a hidden gem that is worth visiting.
An all year-round mountain resort and spa. You can enjoy relaxing and have a wonderful day. If you like adventures I’ll recommend to be adventurous and do the zip lining.
My last idea for a good trip near the city is this little and cute town that offers an awesome environment, hiking, outdoor scenery and recreation getaway.
