Being in university means constantly being broke and trying to find fun things to do that are cheap, but being Ryerson students, living in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world makes it pretty easy! There’s always something to do, and many of those things are 100% free! There is something for everyone in Toronto! So, in order to help you out, below are 10 free things to do around Ryerson University!

1. Step Up your Instagram Game with a Photo-Shoot at Graffiti Alley.

Put on your trendiest outfit and grab your girlfriends and have your photo shoot at Graffiti Alley on Queen Street! This section behind Queen Street is the number 1 spot to up your Insta-game and get some killer shots!

2. Be one with Nature again at Allen Gardens.

Constantly being in Downtown Toronto, you forget what fresh flowers smell like, or that there are trees other than those on Gould Street. Open every day from 10am-5pm, Allen Gardens is the best place to be one with nature again!

3. Get Some Fresh Air at Toronto HarbourFront Centre.

Get out of those stuffy studying cubicles and get some fresh air at HarbourFront. There’s always things happening by the water from Artisan Markets to free music concerts, just keep your eye on the lookout for the festivals and events!

4. Catch Free Entertainment at Yonge-Dundas Square.

Being in the middle of Downtown Toronto has its perks, Yonge Dundas Square is constantly hosting free events all year long! Street performers, free movies nights and the occasional free concert, there is always something happening just steps away from campus!

5. Brush up on your History at the AGO.

Free admission every Wednesday from 6-9pm, the AGO is the perfect spot to educate yourself outside of Ryerson without having to pay tuition! With new exhibits coming and going, there is always something to see!

6. For all the Shoe-Lovers, Check Out the BATA Shoe Museum.

The BATA Shoe Museum has a fantastic deal: every Thursday from 5-8pm they offer a PayWhatYouCan night, with a $5 suggestion. Spend the evening looking at the trendiest shoes throughout history… Try to imagine yourself, stumbling home from the club, after hours of dancing in some of them!

7. Browse the Stalls at St. Lawrence Market.

Head down Jarvis Street and spend your Sunday morning browsing the stalls at the St. Lawrence Market; with everything from food, to antiques! They are always handing out free samples to keep this trip 100% free!

8. Free Tours & Tasting at Amsterdam Brew House.

Every university student’s two favourites words: Free and Beer, but when those two are put together, that is pure heaven. Free guided tours and tasting are available every Monday and Tuesday at 4 pm, and every Wednesday to Sunday at 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, and 6 pm. Yup, free beer tastings!

9. Read Some Classics at Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library.

The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library is located at UofT and allows free entrance to anyone who wants to do some reading. Housing about 740,000 books, there is something for every taste, so why not get lost in some literature that’s not a textbook!

10. Grab some friends and hit Kensington Market.

With street art and unique little shops around every corner, it is easy to spend a day aimlessly wandering the streets of Kensington Market. You can find some great deals if you want to shop, and if not, it is a great place to take some amazing shots for your Instagram feed!
