Ryerson University is a place where you can see dozens of celebrities walking around during TIFF season. But did you know that there are tonnes of famous people who have graduated from our school? Well, here is a list of a few famous alumni from Ryerson University!
1. Nina Dobrev
The beautiful actress from The Vampire Diaries and Degrassi is one of the most known Ryerson Alum. She majored in sociology but left in 2008 to pursue her acting career.
2. Francis D’Souza
Francis is a famous face in Toronto, being a news anchor on CityTv. He graduated from Ryerson with a B.A.A. in Radio and Television. Since 2002 D’Souza has been successful in his career and is in RTA’s Hall of Fame.
3. Sabrina Jalees
A comedian, actress, and writer is a familiar face to those who watched Much’s shows in the early-2000s. Sabrina Jalees used to live in Toronto, even going to Ryerson to study at the RTA school of media.
4. Gail Kim
The former WWE wrestler and native of Toronto, went to UofT for kinesiology, then transferred to Ryerson to major in nutrition instead. Currently, she is married to chef, Robert Irvine, and signed onto TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling).
5. Tonya Lee Williams
After graduating from Ryerson’s Drama program in 1979, Williams later starred in The Young and the Restless. She is also the founder of a film festival in Toronto, the ReelWorld Film Festival, that showcases ethnically diverse communities.
6. Natalie Glebova
Best known for her 2005 win of Miss Universe, Glebova received a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology Management and Marketing at Ryerson. She was the last Canadian to win Miss Universe.
7. Eric McCormack
If you watched Will & Grace, you’ll know McMormack as Will Truman. He attended Ryerson Univeristy; however, McCormack left in 1985 to work with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
8. Nia Vardalos
The writer and star of the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” graduated from Ryerson to have a successful career afterwards. Vardalos attended Ryerson to study Theatre.

9. Hannah Simone
The former MuchMusic VJ and current star in Fox’s “New Girl”, Hannah Simone is a true success. In 2004, Simone graduated from the RTA school of media.
10. Ari Millen
Orphan Black is one of the biggest shows out there now. Well, a Ryerson alum, Ari Millen, is one of the actors in the show. Since graduating from Ryerson’s school of theatre in 2007, Millen has been in many shows and movies.
11. Shay Mitchell
YASS Pretty Little Liars though. Shay Mitchell majored in acting (obviously) and is now one of the biggest stars out there with the success of PLL.
12. Tyler Stewart
The Barenaked Ladies is one of Canada’s most widely-known bands. With a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Radio and Television Arts, he is the only one in the band with a degree.
13. Ramriddlz
Ramriddlz has been making music for years, even when he was a student at Ryerson. He studied in Graphic Communications Management and his life changed because of another Toronto-native, Drake.

14. Ellen Wong
Wong might be a familiar place to people who have watched “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” and/or “The Carrie Diaries.” The Canadian-born actress attended Ryerson and studied Radio and Television arts. She has recently been cast in a new Netflix series called “G.L.O.W.”
15. Lauren Riihimaki
A YouTuber since 2012, Lauren has around 5 million subscribers today. Lauren studied Graphic Communications Management at Ryerson, and can be seen doing DIY videos with the YouTube name “LaurDIY.”

Nicole is a first-year Business Management student at Ryerson university. She is an actor, singer, and brand new writer. Society19 is her first experience at writing, outside of school.
