10 Drinking Games You Didn’t Know About

When board games are not available, my favourite way to spice up a party is by playing drinking games! When people start getting into corners and cliques, drinking games are the best alternative to gather everyone at once.

Everyone knows the typical beer bong, but here are 10 alternative drinking games you should play:

1. Never Have I Ever

“The verbal game is started with the players getting into a circle. Then, the first player says a simple statement about what he has never done before starting with “Never have I ever”. Anyone who at some point in their lives has done the action that the first player says, must drink.

Never Have I Ever is a great way to get to know people, and it’s an even better way to get your friends drinking and interacting with everyone else.

2. Picolo

“Just add each player’s name and Picolo will take care of the rest! As a group or one by one, answer the questions and follow the instructions, no matter how crazy they get! A fun app that comes with you on your night out. Whether you’re at a bar or having a chill night with friends, this game is the perfect addition to your evening.”

Nothing more millennial than a drinking game app. Picolo is sure to get you having fun till the sun comes up!

3. Drunk, Stoned or Stupid?

Drunk, Stoned or Stupid is the definition of the perfect drinking game and the perfect party games. Not only do you and your friends call each other out in every possible sense, but drinking every time you lose seems quite ironic in this game! I love it!

4. Drink-A-Palooza

“Each player chooses an empty 6-pack holder and begins on the space marked START (MAKE A RULE). To begin the game, one player will SPIN THE BOTTLE. Whoever the Bottle is pointed to will begin the game by rolling the dice. The number rolled is the number of spaces the player will move. The game order moves clockwise. Each player plays the game with their favorite beverage in-hand. Throughout the game, you will be either drinking or passing out an amount of “Sips” to other players. Depending on how you want to play, players can also count the amount of “Sips” in “Seconds”. “Sips” and counting the amount of “Sips” in “Seconds” are discretionary. Gameplay always defers to the “House Rules” meaning the owner of the game/house gets the final say on how the game is played and which type you use.”

While I did write an article about the best board games for parties, I didn’t include Drink-A-Palooza, since I see it as less of a board game and more of a drinking game. This is also apparently a good drinking game between partners, so there’s that!

5. Straight Face

“Everyone writes down sentences on a piece of paper. These sentences are aimed to make people laugh when they read or hear them. You must keep a straight face when reading the sentences or when listening to them being read out. One at a time, each player will take turns randomly selecting a sentence. If anyone giggles, laughs or smiles… they must drink.”

The way I like to play Straight Face is by usually getting everyone to write down the sentences at the beginning of the party. Then, later on, after everyone’s had a few shots, you get the game going and it’s much harder for them to keep a straight face on!

6. Mindjob

MINDJOB is an adult card game that is a strange brew of science and profanity designed to mess with your mind. One minute you are swearing with impunity, the next you must conquer the urge to say your favourite word. You must be ruthless in calling out the mistakes of others and make them pay for their mental ineptitude. Let the evening escalate by choosing from dozens of optional NSFW and drinking rules. Best served cold at house parties, pregame sessions, brewpubs and at the cottage.”

Another game which didn’t make my board games list, Mindjob is a fantastic drinking game. There’s even an option for the loser to drink a jungle juice. I love it so much!

7. Most Likely

“Everyone sits around in a circle. Players take turns in asking a “most likely” question. e.g. “Who’s most likely to break their toe?” On the count of 3 everyone points at someone who they think is most likely to do whatever was mentioned. For every person who’s pointing at you, you take 1 drink. So if 7 people think you’re most likely to break your toe you take 7 drinks.”

An alternative for DSoS, Most Likely is an equally great game to play with close friends.

8. Bite the Bag

“Begin by placing the brown paper bag on the floor. Players take turns trying to reach down and attempt to pick up the bag with their mouth. However, the rule is that the only thing allowed to touch the ground is your feet and the only thing allowed to touch the paper bag is your mouth. Whenever anyone fails they must chug a beer or take a shot. To make things more interesting, after every round you can make the bag smaller by cutting off an inch from the top and playing again.”

This one is a perfect mid-house-party drinking game! Just watch out for the bruises!

9. Drink Draw

“This drawing drinking game favours those that suck at art. When picking a scenario for everyone to draw, nothing is off limits. Give each round ~30 seconds for drawings to be completed, and then share them with the group so that voting can begin to find the best and the worst drawings. The artist that created the best one assigns a drink, and whoever made the worst drawing must drink as well.”

I like Drink Draw because it can get very competitive, and it’s just so funny!

10. Spin the Bottle

“Spin the Bottle requires A LOT of alcohol. Once the alcohol is set up, pick an order to spin, and begin. The Spin the Bottle drinking game has very few rules. If anything, it’s more of a team game, as you should encourage each other to stick with it and continue spinning until all the alcohol from that round has been drunk up. The only way to lose is to quit!”

The perfect drinking games for that quick “pre” party before you go out, Spin the Bottle is a great way to warm yourself up for the night.

Remember: none of these games are meant to give you alcohol poisoning! Drink responsibly and don’t drive! Are there any other drinking games you and your friends like to play? Let me know in the comments!
