10 Board Games That Are Perfect for Parties

Board games are both perfect icebreakers and a great change of pace for any party. My favourite thing about having my own place is having the ability to throw a party whenever I want, but if you make a routine out of it, things can seem a little repetitive. Another fun thing about board games is that you can pretty much turn any board game into a drinking game.

Below are my 10 favourite party games! Enjoy!

1. Cards Against Humanity

Card Against Humanity is a party game for horrible people. Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends. The game is simple. Each round, one player asks a question from a Black Card, and everyone else answers with their funniest White Card.”

Cards Against Humanity will always be my all-time favourite party game. It’s just so easy to get silly with your friends. It’s basically the grown-up, more offensive version of Apples to Apples, which makes it the least ideal game for a family night, but highly recommended for a party night!

2. Snake Oil

“One player is the “customer,” and the rest of the players are “salesmen” trying to convince the customer to purchase their product over the others. The products to sell are made by combining two of the Word cards, and players have to gear their sales pitch to the customer’s character. Selling a snow machine to a caveman would be quite different from selling one to a rock star! Lie, fib, and make up some ridiculous stories in order to collect the most Customer cards. After each player has been the customer once, the player with the most Customer cards wins!”

Now, if you have creative friends, Snake Oil can be the funniest game ever. The whole point of it is to sell a completely random, B.S. item and convince everyone they should buy it. I like because it’s not too vulgar unless you want it to be.

3. We Didn’t Playtest This at All

“Between rock paper scissors

battles, being eaten by a random dragon or saved by a kitten ambush, there are many hazards to avoid. Games last between 30 seconds and 5 minutes (if you play slow) and specifically engineered to fit in maximum fun.”

Code for instant laughter and inevitable disaster, We Didn’t Playtest This at All is another one of the most ridiculous board games ever.

4. Hedbanz for Adults

Laugh harder than you ever have, with this quick question game of  ‘What am I?’ An outright hilarious adult game where you fight the clock asking creative questions to determine whether you’re a person, place or thing”

Hedbanz for Adults is a classic board game, great for people who don’t really know each other.

5. Been There, Done That

“Think you know someone?… Think again! Been There, Done That is an award-winning game designed to start the fun at any party, family game night, or gathering with friends.”

Another great board game for getting to know people, Been There Done That is full of conversation starters and icebreakers!

6. Fact or Crap

“Bunk? Bull? Bologna? Malarkey? No matter what you call it, in Fact or Crap, you need to sift it out from the real facts. This fast-paced trivia game will challenge you to take the bull by the horns and determine what’s truth and what’s hogwash. The armadillo is the only animal to suffer from leprosy: fact or crap? Your call!”

What I like about Fact or Crap is that no matter how long you’ve known people for, you will never cease to be surprised at how much certain friends know about completely unexpected topics. Great board game for parties, especially for the brainiacs!

7. Killer Bunnies

Killer bunnies is a funny and satirical non-collectible, expandable card game. Can you escape the smothering impact of the deadly fluorine gas or the devastating damage caused by the stray asteroid? It’s off the wall strategic fun, where the goal is to survive and claim the magic carrot to win the game.”

See Also

Killer Bunnies is the ideal board game for small get-togethers with 2-6 people, but the whole idea of it already makes me giggle. Imagine playing it!

8. Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. A party game for 2-5 players, this is the most-backed project in Kickstarter history and all cards feature illustrations by The Oatmeal.”

This is another perfect board game for a small get-together, and while I still haven’t had a chance to play it, I’ve heard it really is loads of fun.

9. Ultimate Werewolf

“Ultimate Werewolf is an interactive game of deduction for two teams: Villagers and Werewolves. The Villagers don’t know who the Werewolves are, and the Werewolves are trying to remain undiscovered while they slowly eliminate the Villagers one at a time. A Moderator (who isn’t on a team) runs the game. Ultimate Werewolf takes place over a series of game days and nights. Each day, the players discuss who among them is a Werewolf and vote out a player. Each night, the Werewolves choose a player to eliminate, while the Seer learns whether one player is a Werewolf or not. The game is over when either all the Villagers or all the Werewolves are eliminated.”

The Ultimate Werewolf is a perfect board game for large groups of people. I believe this game would be particularly funny amongst actors/comedians/dancers/musicians/artists in general.

10. Disturbed Friends

“Disturbed Friends is a party game designed to find out how disturbed your friends are, but, more importantly, how disturbed they think you are. You will be faced with horrible situations, sexual scenarios and unethical debates that may cause you to re-evaluate your friendships. The game is simple, even a handicapped goat could play. One unlucky player picks up a multiple choice question card and reads it out loud. The other players vote on what answer they think their friend will choose. Predict how disturbed your friend is and receive a cartoon #WINNING card that mocks the wonderful world we live in. The first player to get 10 #WINNING cards wins. Play until you hate yourself. ”

I recently purchased Disturbed Friends and I CANNOT wait to play, because as you know, Cards Against Humanity is already my favourite — but rumours out there say that Disturbed Friends are like CAH on steroids. I’m so excited!

Are there any other board games you like to play during parties? Let me know in the comments!
