You know those days when you have a 12 page paper due the next day, that you have yet to start, but instead of working on it you find yourself googling, “jobs you can get without a university degree” or “successful people that never went to college”? School is hard when you’re constantly bombarded with essays, mid-terms, group projects, and assignments… add London’s never ending winter climate to the mix, and you’ll find yourself just about ready for a mental breakdown. Whether it be a few tears or full on sob-fest, you might find yourself crying on campus. Luckily, we’ve got a list of the top 10 best places to cry at the University of Western Ontario!
1. Walking up the UC Hill
Walking up the UC Hill is a two for one deal. It gives you the option to either blame your tears on the actual trek it is to walk up the hill or that you, “must just be tearing up from the wind hitting my face!”
2. The Rec Centre Pool
There is truly no place to disguise your tears like the pool, even the biggest crying episodes can go un-recognized.
3. John Labatt Visual Arts Centre
Because art just like really speaks to you.
4. A Third Floor Cubicle in Weldon Library
Crying at the library is awesome! A cubicle on the third floor is ideal for a mid study breakdown. You get privacy that the tables on second can’t provide and if a shriek or two happens to slip out, you won’t even receive a quarter of the side eye you’d get from the fifth floor.
5. Western Film
You can watch a movie and get a place to cry for the economical price of $4.25! You might look a little strange crying in the middle of Fight Club but the dimmed lighting should take care of that.
6. Mid Exam/Lab
I honestly would not batt an eye if someone around me started to cry during an exam. It may not be the most private place but it’ll get the job done and leave you relatively unscathed.
7. In Between Library Book Shelves
Honestly, how often do you see someone taking out actual books from the library? The odds of you running into someone you know in an isle of books are as likely as not having to wait in a line at the UCC Tim Hortons.
8. The UCC Basement Washrooms
There’s no classic crying spot like a bathroom stall, am I right? The UCC basement washroom’s are well kept with relatively little traffic making them the perfect spot for those times urine a crummy mood. Bad pun, I’m sorry.
9. A Booth at The Spoke
Crying somewhere as public as The Spoke is never ideal but it has some upsides. The booth gives you a sense of security for a comfortable cry, the noise will most likely drown out any sobbing, and your tears could easily pass as disappointment that your spoke bagel was burnt, again.
10. Wellness Education Centre
All kidding aside, it is important to take care of your mental health and there is no shame in needing further assistance or guidance. The Wellness Education Centre will provide counselling services and several mental health resources.
