It follows them as they grow and change and become characters that we all love. It’s a show that demonstrates the ups and downs of life with times that will make you laugh till you cry and other times that will just make you cry. This show even after so many years since the final episode has aired, is still one that people can relate to. Being so relatable allows us to connect with these characters and the hilarious situations they get themselves into. If you haven’t had the good fortune of watching this show then I highly recommend you watch it as soon as possible.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
This show follows the life of Kimmy Schmidt after she is rescued from a bunker. She was kidnapped and held captive there until she was 25 years old. What follows is her naive venture into a world out of reach from her for so long. With her and her roommate the very fabulous Titus Andromedon she braves New York and tries to find her way. This show is a very funny twist on something that should be absolutely horrible to go through. It’s a heartwarming comedy about living life despite your past and moving on after being given a second chance. I promise you will fall in love with these lovable characters if you give this show a try.
Fresh Prince Of Bel Air
In west philadelphia born and raised on the playground is where I spent most of my days…Most of us know this theme song by heart even people who have never watched this show. It is an iconic television series that follows the life of Will who is sent to live with his rich Uncle and Aunt in Bel air. Here he learns the best ways to annoy his Uncle Phil and tease his cousin Carleton. But also learns a lot of important lessons on the way. This show though constantly making you laugh at the things Will and the rest of his family get themselves into is also heartwarming. It’s a family show like no other that people of almost all ages can enjoy, I definitely recommend this show if you have not watched it yet!
The End of the Fucking World
If you love dark humour then this show is right up your alley. This new tv series follows James, a 17 year old who believes he’s a psychopath. He plans to find his first human victim and he finds that in Alyssa. Alyssa is the rebellious new girl in town and she has a neglectful home life. She decides that James is going to be her way of getting out of this town and that he’s going to be her boyfriend. James agrees all the while planning to kill her. This show is never what it seems and the characters are very complex. It’s a love and coming of age story in the most unlikely of ways. If you love dark comedy and to be held in suspense throughout watching something then give this show a watch. I swear you won’t regret it.
Friends From College
If you like a show with drama, comedy and betrayal then I think friends from college is a show you need to pick up. The series opens with Ethan and Sam sleeping with each other but you quickly find out that this isn’t just a random hook up. These two have been having an affair for the past 20 years while both are married. This leads to the mess that unfolds where people are heartbroken, more people cheat and a book almost gets published. It’s an incredible show with many ups and downs and does a good way of showing how complicated life can be. With a great cast including Cobie Smulders and Fred Savage it’s a show you need to watch. You’ll laugh a lot but also wonder if there really are any bad people in the show. As you witness how messed up life can truly be.
Atypical
Atypical follows the life of Sam, a teenager on the autism spectrum who wants to try his hand at dating. This Comedy drama is definitely something you should pick up as it’s a heartwarming show about trying to make it in a world that keeps reminding you that your different. It looks at what is normal? Why do we value normativity so much? Sam tries to break from the mold and live his life the way he wants to. Sam with his parents, sister and love interest make this show one that will fill you with a lot of emotions but will be worth the watch.
New Girl
This series follows Jess who has recently went through a messy breakup and ends up moving in with three single guys; Nick, Schmidt and Winston. Through their unlikely friendship they not only improve themselves but each other. Making a hilariously dysfunctional family in the process. These lovable characters will make you laugh, cry and so much more so I hope you give this show a chance.
Drop Dead Diva
Drop dead diva follows the life and death of Deb an aspiring model who ends up dying in a car accident. After a mishap when it’s being decided where she will go, either heaven or hell; she escapes and gets placed back on earth. Only to wake up in Jane’s body a brilliant attorney who died saving her bosses life. Deb is horrified when she wakes up in Jane’s curvier figure and has to navigate the life she leads.
Now owning the brains of Jane and the fashion know how of Deb she decides to try and win her now widowed fiance, Grayson back. What enfolds is a very funny yet very heartbreaking tale of being so close to someone you love and yet so far. Though still an empowering story of change and growth. Give this show a watch if you want to witness something that will both make you terribly sad and overjoyed with happiness.
The Good Place
Eleanor is surprised when she finds herself in the good place after dying in a parking lot but quickly realizes something has gone terribly wrong. Things start happening that show her that she might have been put there by mistake. With the help of her soulmate Chidi and friends Tahani and Jianyu she tries to become a better person to fit into this new existence more. This show is a hilarious look into what the afterlife could be like and a good lesson that it’s never too late to try to be better and do better. With a stellar cast such as the always funny Kristen Bell this series is one that will both make you laugh and bring you hope.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Most of us have probably picked up at least one of these well known novels by Lemony Snicket at some point in our childhood. I know I did. This recently television adaptations of the well loved novels also did not disappoint. Each episode of the show follows the Baudelaire children as they try to escape Count Olaf’s clutches with a lot of devastating results. You might be surprised that I placed this in a comedy show list but I have good reason.
Though full of many sad moments the comedic timing of the narrator Lemony Snicket and the humour of count Olaf himself will have you in stitches. This is definitely a comedy drama but I think that makes this series even more enjoyable to witness. Please watch this series it will not only impress due to the production value but has a heartwarming and meaningful story that will stay with you and keep you wanting more.
All in all, these shows are one’s that will bring a little more joy into your life and help you just experience incredible stories that will warm you heart.
