Ain’t nobody got money for those shipping fees!
If you’re like me, you got super excited about how cheap the prices were for the Kylie Lip Kit, only to be devastated when the checkout rang up to $50. Don’t worry, I feel the pain. But the last few weeks I have spent time talking to many girls about their favorite products that don’t cost a fortune and decided to test them out for myself. I normally invest in my makeup rather than experiment with cheap products. But for this article I decided to try a few new products for a week, and these were my thoughts.

Lip Balm
EOS
I know these were all the rage, and although they smell delicious I had to give these a thumbs down for me. I felt like they weren’t actually hydrating my lips and I had to keep reapplying the product.
Burt’s Bees
I tried some lip balms by Burt’s Bees (8.5 g for less than $10) and loved them. They lasted for a long time, and made me feel as though my lips were smoother and more hydrated after using them. It’s also great that they are made of bees wax and other natural ingredients.

Foundation
Make up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Foundation
Foundation is a big one for me. My go-to foundation is Make up Forever Ultra HD Invisible foundation from Sephora, which costs about $52. What I love about this foundation is that it gives me the best coverage I have ever gotten from like products. It also leaves the skin with a natural dewy glow. In my opinion, if you are going to spend $50+ on something, you are better off getting a nice foundation than the Kylie Lip Kit.

L’Oréal True Match Foundation
This was my favorite from the new ones I tried. It was not super thick and blended very easily. Overall, it gave pretty good coverage and I found my face had a bit of a glow to it after application. It reminded me of Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer ($54); which also has good coverage but more importantly leaves a brilliant glow to your face. For less than $20 for 30ml I would say L’Oréal’s Paris True Match product was great!

Mascara
Cover Girl’s Clump Crusher Mascara
I am not a huge mascara person, so I don’t really have a particular brand I stick with, but currently I am using the Sephora brand mascara. Having said that, I was pretty impressed with Cover Girl’s Clump Crusher Mascara. It stayed on all day, didn’t flake off when I accidentally found myself rubbing my eyes (which I do a lot). I also loved the fact that it actually didn’t clump!

Maybelline Great Lash BIG
I also tried Great Lash BIG washable Mascara. This mascara had a lot of great reviews online and a lot of people I spoke to had good things to say about it. It definitely did elongate my lashes and once again I found this mascara also didn’t clump as much which for me is one of my main concerns. This product was also less than $10!

Cover Girl’s LashBlast 24-Hour Mascara
The last mascara I decided to try was Cover Girl’s LashBlast 24-Hour Mascara. It was easy to apply and stayed on for a long time. However, I did find that it started to flake off for me after a few hours. But for less than $10, I thought it was a great deal.
Lipsticks
Kat Von D Matte Lipstick Collection
My favorite product this week was the matte lipsticks, since they most closely matched what I was looking for when I was looking at the Kylie Lip Kit. For this, I went a little over board with trying multiple products. I currently love the Kat Von D collection at Sephora. They are easy to apply and last all day long. The collection offers a wide range of colors, including a few called Vampire, Lolita and Luv. I discovered that Lolita is the perfect nude! These lipsticks give about 0.22 oz. of product for $24, which isn’t too bad. But I was on the hunt for something even cheaper. And I found some pretty good deals at Shopper’s drug mart.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color
The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color had me pretty impressed. The color was pigmented and it lasted quite long. The only con I had with this was that it took a while for it to dry on my lips. In a way, it resembled more of a gloss than an actual matte lipstick. However, the colors were still great and for less than $15 I really can’t complain much. My personal favorite from this collection was Addiction, which is a deep rosy pink.

And an extra life hack for fun…
This week, I learned that instead of wasting money on high-end make up cleaners for your brushes, you can just use baby body wash. Not only is it safe for your skin, but it actually will give your brushes a thorough clean. In particular if your skin is sensitive, this can be a terrific option. Many cleaners have a lot of chemicals and even scents that can irritate your skin, leading to breakouts or rashes.
The Takeaway…
All in all this was a really fun and eye opening experience. I am glad that I spend my money buying these products over the Kylie Lip Kit. I was surprised by the great quality I found for such affordable prices. I was most impressed with the Burt’s Bees products, the L’Oréal foundation and the Cover Girl Clump Crusher mascara!
