Usually when summer is over, we tend to pack up our summer clothes and take out the winter wardrobe. But, you don’t have to put away those summer staples because there are a lot of summer clothing items you can still wear in the winter! The secret to wearing them? Layers! Layers! Layers! Many of us forget that we can add a chunky scarf or a beanie to keep us warm and stylish in the cold months. This tip will save you a lot of money since you can finally merge your closets together and create one perfect wardrobe all year round!
1. Little Black Dress
The little black dress is a staple in every women’s closet and it can be worn all year around, regardless of length, shape, or style. In the summer, think about pairing your dress with a pair of strappy wedges and aviators. Whereas in the winter months, you can easily pair it with a pair of over-the-knee boots and your thick wool coat.
2. Denim Skirt
The denim skirt has made a come back from the year 2000’s and is a very versatile item. For summer, think about keeping it casual with a pair of canvas sneakers and for the top, you can either wear it with a loose t-shirt tucked in or a tight off-the-shoulder top. In the winter months, pair it a pair of short booties and a chunky sweater. And don’t forget the tights to keep your legs warm!
3. Floral Sundress
Floral sundresses are typically worn in the warmer months of spring to the end of August. Floral dresses are so simple and fun; you can dress them up with wedges or keep it casual with a pair of sandals. But, you don’t have to hang it up once it gets chilly outside! Instead, try using a belt to cinch your waistline and layer your floral dress with a thick cardigan and knit scarf. Complete the look with tights and boots!
4. T-Shirt Dress
T-Shirt dresses are the perfect summer clothing items that can still be worn in the winter. Just like floral dresses, you can dress them up with a pair of heels or dress them down with a pair of canvas sneakers. However, in the winter months, you can still get the same effect by adding tights, boots, and a jacket. Add a cute wool hat and you have the perfect outfit.
5. Mini Skirt
The mini skirt will never go out of fashion with the multitude of colours, patterns and shapes; the possibilities are endless! With that being said, they can be worn all year endlessly as well. In the summer, try tucking in a loose T-shirt to your mini skirt for an everyday look. And in the winter, layering a thick knit sweater with a pair of tights and heeled booties will keep you warm and allow you to wear your favourite skirt!
6. Short Sleeve Blouse
Every working girl has one of these in her closets, but assume that when it gets colder outside it is time to hang it up. However, that is not the case here! In the summer it is easy to pair a short-sleeve blouse with a tailored pant for work or a pair of ripped jeans for an edgy, but chic everyday look. For the winter, layer with a sweater and you can make a really cute outfit.
7. Ripped Jeans
Ripped jeans make every girl feel badass and edgy. In the summer, pairing them with a graphic tee for an ultra edgy look is really cute or with a delicate tank for a more California girl look. If you add layers on top with sweaters and jackets, while keeping with the trend of fishnet tights under your ripped jeans, it lets you recreate those looks in the chilly months!
8. Jean Shorts
Every girl owns jean shorts and the general thought associated with them is summer, in spite of that, there are ways to style your summer jean shorts in the winter. In the summer, jean shorts give you the comfort and beachy vibe (even if you’re nowhere near a beach) with a graphic tee or flowy shirt. Jean shorts get an edgy makeover in the winter, with tights, booties, and a leather jacket.
9. Overalls
Overalls have become a staple in the closet again, they are trendy, easy, and super comfortable. In the summer all you need is a plain t-shirt underneath and your choice of shoe and viola! This effortless look can be attained again in the winter, with LAYERS! Long sleeve tops and sweater, with either a vest or jacket, will keep you warm up top, and on the bottom winter boots are a must! You can easily accessorise your look with beanies, scarves and gloves.
10. Lace Trim Cami
The delicate nature of lace trim camis makes every girl feel sexy, and you are! The sensitive nature makes you think you can only wear it in the summer with a pair of jeans and wedges. For the winter, simply throw layers over it for a super cute look!
