10 Budget Friendly Weekend Trips In The Southeast You Can Go On This Summer

Summer is the time for fun weekend trips with your friends, but traveling can be so expensive especially during the summer months. If you want to travel this summer and stretch your dollar as far as it can go, here are 10 budget friendly trips in the southeast you can go on this summer!

1. Chattanooga, TN

Chattanooga has become quite the trendy spot recently and so much has been done to transform the city’s downtown into a vibrant urban space. I recently went to Chattanooga and had so much fun bar hopping in the southern historic district of downtown. If you book ahead, hotels are really affordable and so are most of the attractions, especially if you buy combination tickets beforehand. Just check out trip adviser and yelp to find affordable restaurants and you’ll be able to have such a fun trip without shelling out too much cash.

2. Helen, GA

Helen is one of the cutest towns in Georgia and one of the most budget friendly trips that you can go on this summer. Helen is great for anyone who loves the outdoors because there’s so much great hiking (which is free!) in the area. Duke Creek falls and Ruby Ana Falls are nearby so you have lots to see! If you check Air B n’ B and Verbo, you can find an adorable and affordable cabin to stay in for the weekend, so add this destination to your list of potential summer trips!

3. Gulf Shores, AL

You’re going to want to hit the beach this summer, but going somewhere like Miami is just SO expensive. You can get just as nice of a beach experience for half the price if you travel to Gulf Shores Alabama this summer! Located on the Gulf Of Mexico, the beaches of Gulf Shores are breathtaking because of the soft white sand and beautiful turquoise ocean. There are other great places on the Gulf, but this one is less expensive than places like Destin, making it a great option for budget friendly trips to take this summer!

4. Outer Banks, NC

Say hello to another beautiful beach town that you’ll love visiting! This North Carolina spot is close to many other fun beach towns and is a great laid back place to visit for some relaxation this summer. Not only is it low-key, but this town is also super budget friendly with lots of affordable and delicious restaurants and cute hotels! You can visit other places in the area or just post up for the weekend, making this a great destination to investigate.

5. Tybee Island, GA

Located very close to Savannah, Tybee Island is such a great spot to visit this summer. You can get the full beach experience there and if you rent a house on Air B n’ B, you can go with a large group of people for very cheap. If you want to do more than just lounge on the beach, Savannah has a lot of great attractions and sites that you can see!

6. Galveston, TX

Galveston has so many things to do, making it one of the most exciting budget friendly trips that you can take this summer! There’s lots of stuff to do outdoors, but the botanical gardens are definitely the coolest place to check out. Because Galveston is right on the water, you can eat lots of delicious seafood for cheap and get that ocean experience that you’re looking for this summer!

7. Hot Springs, AR

If you’ve totally overlooked Arkansas, look again! The hot springs are an insanely cool natural phenomenon that you can enjoy over a weekend trip. Cabins in the area are super affordable making this one of the most interesting budget friendly trips you can take this summer!

8. Brevard, NC

Asheville is costly, so check out the similar and much cheaper town of Brevard! This scenic place is so beautiful, which you’ll love, and if you rent a cabin you’ll get the full nature experience. Brevard is super artsy just like Asheville so you can check out a ton of unique stores and bring back some goodies with all the money you saved on this budget friendly trip!

9. Williamsburg, VA

If you love history, Williamsburg is the perfect destination to visit for a weekend trip this summer! You can spend at least one day of your trip visiting the colonial Jamestown, which is a great window into America’s past. The colonial town is so fun and interesting so you’ll learn a lot on your trip too! Because this is a low-key and historical site, there are plenty of affordable places to eat and stay in the area, so check this cool place out this summer!

10. Seabrook Island, SC

If you want to visit Charleston but don’t want to pay the Charleston prices, stay in Seabrook Island instead! This beautiful beach town is a perfect place to spend the weekend relaxing and since it’s only twenty miles from Charleston, you can easily head there for the day! You can definitely rent an affordable beach house or bungalow so research your options and add this beautiful place to your summer trip list!

I've got a case of wanderlust, I'll never stop traveling because my goal is to go to every single continent. I've made it to four out of seven so far. I graduated from Emory University in May of 2018 with a degree in English and Political Science. I will be attending law school this fall but in the meantime I write, travel, and love to be outside in nature.
