10 Broke Girl Recipes To Try

Adulting is hard. Especially when your first experience on your own is when you are in college. You have to juggle bills, your studies, and work, all on top of taking care of yourself. It can be hard, so let’s help to cut out some of that hard work. This article showcases some recipes for every broke girl out there that’ s experimenting with adulthood and just surviving.

1. 30 min Thai Peanut Chicken Ramen

This ramen has a bit more punch than the average ramen most eat in college. The recipe makes 6 servings, so it’s great for meal prepping. Just make sure that you have the noodles and broth separate to keep your noodles from being gross and mushy. It takes about 30 minutes to make, so it’s an easy and quick dish that you can throw together after class and/or work. These noodles would be especially comforting on a cold night.

2. Your Own Crunchwrap Supreme

Love Taco Bell? Well, this recipe may be for you if you are a fan of the crunchwrap. The recipe is fairly simple, so feel free to add more flavors to customize it to your own needs. For example, if you don’t eat red meat, you can enjoy this meal with shredded or ground chicken instead. You can also add garlic and onions to the meat while you are cooking it to give it more pizazz and taste. If your taste buds crave spice, why not pour up the salsa or even use pepper jack cheese inside of your crunchwrap just to be different.

3. Fettuccine Alfredo

Pasta is a universally fast and cheap meal. This recipe is no different. It calls for only 5 ingredients, but if you aren’t in that much of a pinch, feel free to add to this recipe as well. This meal could be made to be vegetarian or pescatarian with shrimp also. Think outside the box, like adding some white wine (if you are over 21), garlic, basil, etc. Recipes are mainly used as a guideline, so don’t be scared to add a bit more to your meal however you see fit. 4. Chicken Curry

Chicken curry is a great meal that can be served in multiple ways. You can serve this dish with a salad, rice, or both if you want. Cooking is art, so all rules can be bent and changed to better suit your vision and taste. The recipe does not fall in the lines of traditional curry, so feel free to hook it up any way you want. 5. Breakfast Burrito

You cannot forget breakfast. It’s arguably one of the most important meals of the day. This recipe just calls for a really bomb egg scramble with bacon. Like all recipes, you could change this to your taste buds. If you are not a bacon fan, first off stay away from me, other than that you can switch the bacon out with sausage. You can even make this in bulk and store them in your freezer and reheat them in the microwave.

6. Mushroom Pasta

This is another vegetarian-friendly recipe for you to enjoy. The recipe asks for chicken broth, but you can always switch it out for vegetable broth. This is another quick and easy pasta meal for you to enjoy, especially if you love mushrooms.  Do not hesitate to double the recipe, so you can have more the next day once everything has marinated together for even better flavor.

7. French Onion Soup

Soup is the most perfect and cozy meal to have when the weather gets colder. This recipe is very rustic and hearty and for those of you who love onions and garlic. In the video, they are using beef stock, but of course, feel free to use vegetable or whatever other broth you would like. This meal requires very little ingredients, so it is should be every broke girl’s staple for the fall and winter months.

8. Vanilla Ice Cream

There’s nothing like a midnight sweet treat. This one is for all the broke girls out there with a serious sweet tooth. This recipe is how to make vanilla-flavored ice cream with the help of two different sized ziplock bags. It takes about 15-25 mins to make. Since it is vanilla, you can always add toppings to your own personal taste, like chocolate syrup, sprinkles, or oreo cookie pieces, there are so many options.

9. Lemon Butter Chicken with Asparagus

Gotta eat your veggies too. This recipe is great for when you miss having a home-cooked meal. If you are trying to be more conscious about what you are eating, this meal is keto-friendly and low carb. This is also cooked in one pan, which means easy cleanup and works great if you aren’t an official adult yet, like most of us, and only really own one good pan. Make sure that the pan that you are using is oven safe because you are going to brown your chicken, and then finish cooking it in the oven. If you aren’t concerned about your carb intake, this meal would be awesome with roasted potatoes too. Yum, yum.

10. Grilled Cheese Caprese Sandwich

There’s nothing like a good, ooey-gooey grilled cheese, but why not take it up a notch. This recipe calls for a bit of prep, but it is definitely worth it. It is a grilled cheese with cheese, tomato, and pesto, like a Caprese salad. If you have time and fresh ingredients, it would be awesome to create your own pesto, if not you can always purchase pre-made pesto at the grocery store. Assemble your sandwich, pan toast it, and wa-lah you have a nice, hot sandwich to enjoy for lunch.
