5 Books That Will Give You Major Summer Feels

One of my favourite things to do in the summertime is to read, especially if it involves laying under the hot sun on the beach or by the pool. To make this moment perfect the right book is essential. So here are 5 books that will give you major summer feels.

1. Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

This beautifully poignant coming-of-age story is the ultimate book to give you summer feels. It focuses on love, possible murder, and nature. It topped The New York Times Fiction Best Sellers of 2019 for 20 non-consecutive weeks and is raved about by none other than Reese Witherspoon.

“For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life – until the unthinkable happens.” – blurb.

2. Paper Towns by John Green

John Green is one of my favourite ever authors. All of his books are so emotional and unique and the best for teen and young adult readers. One guaranteed to make you feel those summer feels is Paper Towns, which is set over one summer and also adapted into a film starring Cara Delevingne.

“Quentin Jacobsen has always loved Margo Roth Spiegelman, for Margo (and her adventures) are the stuff of legend at their high school. So when she one day climbs through his window and summons him on an all-night road trip of revenge he cannot help but follow. But the next day Margo doesn’t come to school and a week later she is still missing. Q soon learns that there are clues in her disappearance . . . and they are for him. But as he gets deeper into the mystery – culminating in another awesome road trip across America – he becomes less sure of who and what he is looking for.” – blurb.

3. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Classic books are classic for a reason. Because they’re amazing and timeless. Fitzgerald—inspired by the parties he had attended while visiting Long Island’s North Shore—began planning the novel in 1923, desiring to produce, in his words, “something new—something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned.” A must-read story.

“Young, handsome and fabulously rich, Jay Gatsby is the bright star of the Jazz Age, but as writer Nick Carraway is drawn into the decadent orbit of his Long Island mansion, where the party never seems to end, he finds himself faced by the mystery of Gatsby’s origins and desires. Beneath the shimmering surface of his life, Gatsby is hiding a secret: a silent longing that can never be fulfilled. And soon, this destructive obsession will force his world to unravel.” – blurb.

4. Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls

You might know the author David Nicholls because of his famous and fantastic novel One Day. Sweet Sorrow was one of the summer’s most eagerly awaited novels and has not disappointed.

“In 1997, Charlie Lewis is the kind of boy you don’t remember in the school photograph. His exams have not gone well. At home, he is looking after his father, when surely it should be the other way round, and if he thinks about the future at all, it is with a kind of dread.

Then Fran Fisher bursts into his life and despite himself, Charlie begins to hope. But if Charlie wants to be with Fran, he must take on a challenge that could lose him the respect of his friends and require him to become a different person. He must join the Company. And if the Company sounds like a cult, the truth is even more appalling…

The price of hope, it seems, is Shakespeare.” – blurb.
