If you thought board games were only for kids, think again. From girls’ night to family game night, everyone is playing them again. Everything from classic versions to spin-off editions are really fun to play. Challenge your friends or family to a game to see how fun playing board games can be.
1. Monopoly
If the playing board has never been flipped over during the game, are you even playing Monopoly the right way? Just kidding, bad sports are no fun; but this game is sure to test the limits. Monopoly is a board game where players travel around the board collecting properties and later on charge rent for landing on these properties. There are so many variations of this game from Dogopoly to Harry Potter. There is guaranteed to be a version for everyone!
2. Operation
This game is probably the reason you love Grey’s Anatomy so much. Feel like a real-life Meredith Grey when you play Operation. This the game where the “surgeon” removes body parts and objects from the patient. The key is to not hit the metal sides of each compartment with the tweezers, otherwise, his nose lights up with a loud buzzing noise. The competitive side of you will come out as you battle against other surgeons to save the patient!
3. Sorry
Sorry, not sorry! This is actually the real name of the game. Sorry is a board game that will test friendships with its objective. The idea of Sorry is to move your game pieces around the board into the safety zone and then home before your opponents do. Draw cards to see how far you can move or if you can trade positions with another player on the board. Sometimes, you’ll have the option to split moves between two pieces or even slide along other colored arrows on the board.
4. Trouble
The only thing that will cause trouble in this board game, is if you keep sending the same person back to their start time after time! Trouble is a game in which you try to get all your game pieces from start to home before your opponents. However, they have a chance to send you back to the beginning if they land on the same space as you. Enjoy hours of fun, as long as you don’t take it seriously.
5. Life
Living in a mansion with four kids and driving a great car, who wouldn’t love that life? This is a possibility in the Game of Life. This board game takes you through the various stages of life and lets you choose between different options. The objective is to have the most money and assets at the end of the game. Players will choose careers, families, and much more as they navigate the game!
6. Clue
Murder meets mystery in the game of Clue. This game requires critical thinking, gut feelings, and strategy. Players will try to find out where with what, and who killed the character in the case files. Roll dice to enter different rooms in the house and make suggestions about your theory. Work together with other players to solve the case!
7. Candy Land
Licorice, gumdrops, and lollipops are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. Only in this game, they are part of the playing board! In Candy Land, players will try to reach the castle before the other players. The playing cards determine how quickly you move along the spaces. There are shortcuts and shortcomings that will keep you interested. Make it a fun game night by having some of the same candy as snacks!
8. Uno
There’s no greater joy than playing a Draw 4 card in Uno. While this is not exactly a board game, it is sure to bring back childhood memories! Uno is one of the universal games that almost everyone has played at some time or another. Each player will try to get rid of their cards the fastest, while also making sure others do not go out before them. When someone reaches their last card, they must say Uno and hopefully, they will be able to discard that card to win.
9. Guess Who
Use your creeping skills for good, when you play the game Guess Who. In this game, you have to solve the other person’s identity before they solve yours. By asking yes or no questions, you will eliminate possibilities, narrowing your choices down. Start with the classic or switch to newer versions that make it a little more entertaining. Either way, it’s sure to bring back some fun memories while creating new ones!
10. Trivial pursuit
All the random facts you know might come in handy when playing Trivial Pursuit. The board game challenges your wit and knowledge with questions from different categories. Be the first player to answer a question from each category correctly to earn tokens. Once you have all the tokens, you are able to move to the center of the board for the final question. If you answer that correctly you win and have bragging rights.
11. Scrabble
Challenge your friends or family to the ultimate spelling test. Scrabble is a board game that awards points for the most creative word creation. Players will use tiles to come up with words. Words can be played off each other and the goal is to earn the most points possible. Come up with creative, but real words, and see who wins the spelling bee award.
12. Twister
Be the last person standing in this game. More like holding your position. Twister is sure to get you twisted while you try to follow the games directions! In Twister, players must follow certain rules on where to place various body parts on different colored circles. With only so many circles per color, you will have to get creative with positioning. If any part of the body touches the ground, you are eliminated. Go barefoot or use socks if you are feeling really confident in your skills.
