There are some shows that came out years ago or even decades ago that are still perfect for watching nowadays. They were great when they came out, and can make for a classic movie or show to watch during summer quarantine, or any time of the year. Some of the best throwback movies and shows to watch are conveniently located on Netflix. Here’s what to watch if you’re looking for some throwbacks!
Obviously, The Bachelor is still on tv. It gives us all the drama, romance, break ups, love, and laughter we need in a show. Thankfully, Netflix has added The Bachelor and has included some of the best throwback episodes to watch during Jason Mesnick’s season. Mesnick was the bachelor in 2009, so watching the thirteenth season of this show definitely feels slightly different from today’s episodes. The hairstyles, dresses and makeup, and contestants are different from now, but the drama is just as entertaining to watch back then as it is now. If you’re a big Bachelor fan, thank Netflix for including this season on their streaming service.
We have all heard of That 70s Show and probably planned on watching it once before. Maybe we even saw episodes of it here and there when it was on TV in the mid 2000’s. If not, now is the time to see what you were missing out on with one of America’s most classic television shows ever.
Thank you Netflix for now having one of the best Amanda Bynes movies ever. I’m pretty sure we all wanted to go to England after watching this movie, and it was definitely one of the best movies of the early 2000s for the generation that grew up watching Nickelodeon. If you haven’t already watched it, now is the time to.
If you were a fan of Gilmore Girls, you may have watched Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, when it came out a few years ago. The reboot brought back the best television mother and daughter duo, Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, and held the same homey-happy feeling that it always had. The original show came out 20 years ago and is definitely worth watching.
One of the most throwback movies to be on Netflix is Back To The Future. Starring Michael J. Fox, Back To The Future is a classic, science fiction movie from 1985 that introduced us to Marty McFly and time travel. If you haven’t seen it before, take some time to watch Back To The Future and Back To The Future Part 2 which are both on Netflix.
Let’s be real, the 1980s were a decade full of amazing movies that soon became classics for generations that followed to watch. Directed by John Hughes, who also helped create some of the other best throwback movies (Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind Of Wonderful), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off follows Ferris (Matthew Broderick) through a wild day in Chicago when he decides to skip school for the last time. During this movie we watch Ferris try to accomplish yet another day of not going to classes and living life to its fullest before he graduates all while the principal is out to catch him.
How did a movie from 1971 become a classic movie that everyone knows? Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is one of the most memorable throwback movies. Golden tickets were the second star of this movie, after Gene Wilder as the famous Willy Wonka. Getting to visit Willy Wonka’s factory meant you found one of the rare tickets hidden in a chocolate bar. Netflix brought this classic to their streaming service, and also added Charlie And The Chocolate factory, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Both movies are a total throwback, as one is from 15 years ago, and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory came out over 30 years ago.
Yes, The Office did not come out as long ago as some of these movies, but it is definitely still a throwback. We’ve seen the cast of The Office in a lot of movies and shows in between the seasons of The Office, and after it ended in 2013. It stars some of the most hilarious actors and gives us the staff of Dunder Mifflin – who we can relate to and find funny. Based in an office space in Scranton, PA, we can all find individuals in this show who may remind us of someone we know at work. The Office has become such a beloved show by so many people, and it’s clear why it is binge-worthy and considered a classic for throwback shows.
Another show that you might have missed while it was new on television is Parks And Recreation. Like The Office, Parks And Rec gives us a ton of characters with different personalities that are involved with the Indiana Parks And Recreation Department. This show is sure to make you laugh and, is similar to The Office with episodes being under 30 minutes. These short episodes make it super easy to binge in no time, for real! Even though it came out in 2009, it ended after 7 seasons and made its way onto Netflix. It has some of the funniest people in it and an overall great cast with actors such as Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, and many more. If you haven’t seen Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope yet, now is the time to watch this show and see all of its greatness.
