Memorial Day weekend 2019 is just around the corner. This year is going by so quickly! The end of May is nice and warm, the perfect time of a year for lounging. We thought you might want to try something different this year though. Here’s a list of what we thought are the 10 best things to do for Memorial Day weekend 2019!
One of the most popular activities to try out on Memorial Day Weekend 2019 is the parade, of course! If you haven’t already been to one, you really are missing out. No matter where you are in the country, some town or city close by will be holding one. It’s tradition! So dress up crazy, take your friends or even the kids, and go enjoy the flashy floats, street food, and miles and miles of celebration!
Like we said, the end of May is the perfect time of year for lounging. It’ll be nice and warm, school is done for the Summer… Memorial Day Weekend 2019 is the perfect time for you to finally get off to the beach and enjoy yourself! Go alone or with a group of friends! Bring the family! A lot of places might be pretty crowded, so try to get in early or find a smaller, more private beach to relax on. Bring some brews, a football, and some snacks and have a good time.
It does not matter how old you are. Carnival rides, games, and even all the fried foods never get old. More often than not, places will set up a carnival for holidays like Memorial Day Weekend 2019, 4th of July, etc. So all you have to do is search the nearest (or biggest) one and head on over! It’s a great way to spend the day, or let off some steam at night.
Okay, it might seem kind of weird that this would make the list. However, if you are an avid shopper like most of us women (and some men) are, you know that Memorial Day Weekend has some of the best sales in stores all across the country! We don’t recommend going broke or spending the -entire- weekend shopping. You definitely need to get outside and celebrate, too. However, if you are celebrating solo this year, this is the perfect activity for you!
Run while you can! Kids are on vacation, the weekend is extended, and the weather is great. What more of a reason do you need? Even if you want to stay fairly close to home, there are millions of places all over the country that will be holding special Memorial Day Weekend 2019 celebrations at their restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts, etc. Whether you want an extravagant couples retreat or just a night out of town, this holiday weekend is a great time to travel. Just make sure you plan ahead. Things book up fast!
Again, a lot of people try to dip out and go on some sort of vacation on Memorial Day weekend. If you aren’t going on a trip, the plus side is the cities tend to empty out. This Memorial Day Weekend 2019 try something different and head into the biggest city by you (of course we recommend Boston) where the crowds will be much smaller, ticket prices will be much cheaper, and there will be an endless amount of things for you to check out. It’s a great way to wander and stay local!
Since Memorial Day is the unofficial marker of the beginning Summer, it’s a great time to get out on the water and not just sit by it. There are options of mini cruises, kayaking, rafting, or if you are lucky enough to own a boat (or have a close friend that does) it’s so much fun to just go out into the middle of nowhere and have a little celebration! Make sure to have at least one responsible person around if there is going to be heavy drinking, though. There have been a lot of avoidable accidents on boats when people party a little too hard.
We’re sure this is one of those activities that go without saying, but just in case we figured we’d add it to the list. There are a million and one ways to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend 2019 at a backyard party. Beers and barbecues are of course a classic. We even have another article all about DIY decoration, food, and drink ideas if you’re going to throw you’re own Memorial Day party. Go check it out!
We apologize if this one sounds a bit morbid, but we can’t forget the whole reason we celebrate Memorial Day to begin with. It is extremely common for cemeteries to fill up with families and friends who have lost a loved one that was in the service. They take the time to decorate the headstones and graves with plenty of flowers, decorations, cards, candles, etc. Whether you have lost a loved one or not, it is a great idea to go help out and pay your respects to the men and women who gave their lives for our beautiful country.
The point of this list was to give you some new ideas on how to celebrate this Memorial Day Weekend 2019. However, if you are a homebody, always on the go, or someone that is always at every party everywhere no matter what, we wouldn’t blame you for taking a staycation. Honestly, it’s the perfect way to celebrate things sometimes. Sit by the pool, sit in the A.C., cook a special dinner for you and your love, etc. There is actually so much you could do at home to celebrate, so we give you full permission to do anything and nothing!
