10 Best Tech Gadgets Every College Student Should Have
College is meant to be a time where a student is supposed to survive on his own. That student needs the right tools for the job, and it’s hard to know what tools to get, or where to get them. Here are 10 of the Best Tech Gadgets Every College Student Should Have.
1. KINDLE E-READER
Hate having to carry all your school books around? Backpack bursting at the seams? Or maybe you have too many books that are just meant for fun? Might be the time to get an e-reader. If you’re the type that doesn’t mind how they get their reading done, an e-reader is a great investment to make. You can store all your books in one place that you can cary around with one hand, and the e-reader is a lot easier to read than your smartphone screen. If you’re using them for school though, make sure the books in question can be bought and read using an e-reader, and that the prices are good. You can get an e-reader from Amazon for only a hundred dollars. This is one of the best tech gadgets.
2. BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES
You know how half the time, the cord connecting your headphones to your phone gets caught on something, and it pulls out when you’re listening to your favorite song? Or worse yet, your phone gets ripped right out of your hands and falls to the floor? Well, you don’t have to worry about that any more. Bluetooth headphones are great for those that do a lot of moving around, or running, or exercising. Quite a few come with noise cancellation, so that makes it easier to listen to videos or music when you’re roommate is being a little loud. While there are many models and price ranges, I recommend the Jam SilentPro, which costs only fifty dollars on Amazon Prime.
3. AMAZON ECHO DOT
This is one of the best tech gadgets you can get for cheap. Think of it as a jack-off-all trades assistant. The Amazon Echo Dot is a music player, alarm clock and schedule organizer all rolled into one! You can ask about the weather, traffic, make hands-free calls to friends or family, play music when studying, and set alarms, timers and reminders throughout the day. Very handy if you don’t write things down and are forgetful. This handy device is available for Amazon Prime members for the price of just $39.99, a great investment in the long run. This is one of the most useful tech gadgets.
4. LAPTOP COMPUTER
This one may seem obvious, but it warrants a mention all the same. College is a big transitional phase for some people. When the time comes, they may need to upgrade their current computer hardware into something that’s up-to-date. To be more direct, if you have an old computer, this is the time to get an upgrade, before you go off to college. While I’m sure everyone has different preferences for buying a laptop, Apple is always a good choice. Some of their MacBooks are available for $870 on Amazon Prime.
5. MULTI-OUTLET SURGE PROTECTOR
Did you know some dorm rooms only have one outlet? Shocking, I know. So, the best way to use it would be to buy a surge protectors with multiple outlets, the more the better. Some of you may think you don’t use that many, but trust me, those things can get occupied pretty quickly. The Belkin 12 Outlet Surge Protector is often mentioned, and I agree that this is the one you should go for, as it costs $19 for Amazon Prime members, whereas the standard surge protector gives five or six outlets for $10.
6. BLUETOOTH SPEAKER
It seems to me you’re going to find one reason or another to use a bluetooth speaker. Want to bring the jams to a party? How about listen to music without headphones? Watching a movie but the speakers on your computer aren’t cutting. A bluetooth speaker seems to be an item that falls under the ‘better-safe-than-sorry’ category. Better to have it, for whatever reason comes your way. While there are multiple models out there, the most inexpensive, for Amazon Prime members, would be the JBL GO 2, at only $40, but if you want to see what else is available, a complete list can be found here.
7. ROOMBA VACUUM
Whether living in a dorm room or an apartment close to campus, that place is going to need some cleaning. (Especially the dorm rooms!) And the Roomba Vacuum is best tech gadget for the job, as it’s able to vacuum the hard to reach spots, and the floor in general, while you’re not in. It works on all types of floors, and when it’s done, it puts itself away. The iRobot Vacuum is available for $300 for Amazon Prime members.
8. PURSTEAM ELITE POWERFUL
How you present yourself matters a lot in college. The kind of clothes you were, and especially the state their in, can say a lot about you. That’s why it isn’t enough to just put your button-down shirts through the washer and dryer on the weekend. You need to make them look nice and pressed. But an ironing board and iron can take up a lot of space in your dorm room. That’s why I recommend the Pursteam Elite Powerful, as it takes up a lot less space, and doesn’t require as much time. This is the best tech gadget if you want to get rid of those wrinkles on your clothes in time for your date or that important job interview. This item is available for $25 for Amazon Prime members.
9. TILE MATE
This seems to be a fact of life: You’ll lose your car keys…repeatedly. But know, thanks to the Tile Mate app, that isn’t much of a problem anymore. By attaching the Tile Mate to your key ring, you can use GPS to locate where your car keys are. As an added bonus, it has an alarm, so you can find your keys when they’re hiding under your sheets or your folder, etc. For Amazon Prime members, the 1-tile pack costs $20. I recommend for those who misplace their keys a lot.
10. AMAZON DASH BUTTONS
Ever run out of a product, and wanted to buy some more like that? Well, know you can! Amazon Dash buttons are for those who know what items that they’ll always buy, or use frequently. You buy a dash button for an item, let’s say Tide, and you set up which Tide product you want to buy. Press the button whenever you run out, and that product is immediately ordered and delivered within a few days. You do need to buy a Dash button for each item, and those cost $5. Furthermore, they’re only available for Amazon Prime members.
