10 Best Rom-Coms Perfect Post Breakup
If you’re reading this article, then that means you are going through a breakup! And honey, we are here for you! Nothing will make you feel better than a hilarious love story, so check out these top 10 best rom-coms that will help you get over him. By the end of the movie, you won’t even remember who you were crying over in the first place! Break out the wine, popcorn, and pint of Ben & Jerry’s, and press play!
1. The Proposal
Sandra Bullock. Ryan Reynolds. Betty White. Can the lineup get any better? In this hilarious rom-com, a stuck-up boss (Bullock) forces her assistant (Reynolds) to marry her in order to keep her visa status, and in return, her assistant will get the promotion he’s been waiting for. But, as you might of guess, the two develop feelings for each other and get mixed up in some juicy family drama! Honestly, the scene where Betty White is dancing in the woods makes this movie worth watching, period!
And (SPOILER), you’ll be drooling when Ryan Reynolds strips down for a steamy shower scene!
2. Bridesmaids
This movie is probably my favorite on the list! In this rom-com, we have comedians like Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Ellie Kemper acting as perfect bridesmaids and getting ready for Maya Rudolph’s wedding. “Bridesmaids” is so hilarious, I wouldn’t be surprised if you peed your pants multiple times during the movie, especially when Melissa McCarthy shrieks, “it’s coming out like lava!”
3. 13 Going On 30
Aww, wouldn’t we all like to fast-forward to when we’re 30 and flirty? In this sweet love story, we get to see Jennifer Garner make a wish on her 13 birthday and wake up the next morning to find herself 30 years old! With quirky fashion trends, a magical dollhouse, and Pop Rocks, this iconic rom-com is almost too cute to handle! Jennifer, you rock those pigtails!
4. The 40-Year-Old Virgin
I love Steve Carell, and any movie he is a part of is AMAZING, especially this one! In this rom-com, a 40-year-old virgin sets out to find love with the help of his “experienced” friends, including Paul Rudd. This movie can be raunchy at times, but it still manages to tug at your heartstrings. Carell has a way of making a cringey character likable, and even relatable (cough, Michael Scott). I guess you’ll have to watch it to find out if he loses his virginity…
5. 50 First Dates
This wasn’t the first movie that Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore made together; I was so close to putting “The Wedding Singer” in this slot, but alas, I had to go with “50 First Dates,” because it’s just that perfect. In this movie, Adam Sandler is living the single life when he falls head over heels for Drew Barrymore’s character. After their first date, he can’t wait to see her again! Only he doesn’t know that every night, her memory is wiped clean, and she can’t remember who he is!
6. Crazy Rich Asians
This rom-com is a little more recent and very cute! During the course of the movie, native New Yorker Rachel Chu goes to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s family… Only she doesn’t know that they are super rich! She spends the whole movie struggling to fight for her maybe-to-be mother-in-law’s approval. With the perfect balance of humor and romance, this movie is a must-see!
7. 27 Dresses
Jane is always, always, always the perfect bridesmaid, until her little sister becomes engaged to her crush (and boss)! Throughout the movie, Jane meets (unknown to her) her favorite wedding columnist Kevin Doyle. The two bicker, flirt, and sing barefoot in a bar to “Bennie And The Jetts!” By the end of the movie, you can’t wait for Jane to stand up for herself and say a word she’s never used before: NO!
8. Overboard (the original)
Ok, hear me out. I know this movie pretty old, and I know there is a newer one out there, but the original is just too perfect. PLEASE give it a chance!
In this hilarious rom-com, rich and poor go head to head, and may the best man (or woman) win! Kurt Russell is the carpenter for filthy-rich Goldie Hawn, and when he does a “poor” job on her closet, the two burn a bridge that can never be fixed. Instead of walking away from the situation like a normal person, Kurt Russell takes advantage of Goldie Hawn (who has amnesia from a recent boating accident), and tricks her into thinking she is his wife!
9. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
Sweet Lara Jean Covey writes secret love letters to her past crushes. She thinks they are safe and sound in her closet, and then one day is blindsided when she finds out they somehow got into the hands of her recipients (including heartthrob Peter Kavinsky)! After you watch this will-they-won’t-they love story, you’ll end up wanting to write your own secret love letters!
You can watch this movie on Netflix, and be sure to check out the sequels!
10. You’ve Got Mail
An oldie but goodie, “You’ve Got Mail is a classic rom-com you have to see! It has Tom Hanks at the forefront as the stuck-up book superstore magnate that is running all of the mom-and-pop book shops out of business, including Meg Ryan’s store! While Meg Ryan’s character views Tom Hank’s character as the devil himself, unbeknownst to her, she is corresponding back and forth with him as secret pen-pals!
Sworn enemies by day, pen-pals by night, this rom-com is perfect for any of you out there having to say goodbye to the past.
