For many students, Labor Day Weekend (The first Monday of Septemeber) is a three-day weekend that represents either a short break after the school year has begun and/or one last weekend plus an extra day to do something fun before summer vacation is over. A popular pastime during federal holidays, such as Labor Day Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend is to head up to a small town with a big lake. One of the most popular places for this type of trip is in Lake Tahoe, California. Tahoe offers many different water activities; taking the boats out on the lake, swimming, paddling boating, inner tubing, and riding jet skis, to name a few. Located in Northern California (about an hour drive from San Francisco), the city in the wine country region of the state offers beautiful scenery as a perfect escape from the city. During the holiday, the city is hosting several events, the most notable one being Wine Country Weekend. Visitors can try samples from over 200 wineries and chefs at The Taste of Sonoma. This is the place for you if you love wine and food.
Although it is not winter or ski season yet, Aspen is still a beautiful place to visit during the summer. Besides exploring the area’s mountains, things to do include kayaking and rafting down The Fork River, trying the local cuisine, and taking a hot air balloon ride up to The Elk Mountains. Aspen also attracts tourists during the three day weekend for two major events: The 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival (On September 3rd) and Jazz Open Snowmass, a two-day music festival (August 30th-September 1st) with this year’s lineup including Sting, John Mayer, and Luke Combs.
One of only two international destinations to make this list, the Bahamas is the best destination for one last quick tropical getaway. With over 700 islands and cays, Nassau and Paradise Island are among the best areas to stay at while visiting the Bahamas. The Ocean Club and The Cove at Atlantis are the best hotels to stay at. The most populated city in the United States is usually crowded year round with tourists from all over the world coming to visit The Big Apple. However, come Labor Day Weekend, the city is less crowded and allows more time to actually enjoy and explore around the city. Major events occurring over the holiday include the US Open, the Electric Zoo Music Festival, and the Quirky Festival (a unicycle festival).

The city is one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations with a plethora of things to do and places to explore. Key attractions include taking a day trip to nearby Tulum, shopping in Downtown Cancun and the Hotel Zone, and exploring the Cenotes. Going out at night to the local bars and clubs is a must as well.
