10 Best Places To Spend Labor Day Weekend At

Want to make the most of Labor Day Weekend? For many students, Labor Day Weekend (The first Monday of Septemeber) is a three-day weekend that represents either a short break after the school year has begun and/or one last weekend plus an extra day to do something fun before summer vacation is over. For adults, Labor Day Weekend is a long weekend with an extra day off. If one wants to make the most of the holiday, he or she can take full advantage and book a three to four day trip somewhere for one small adventure. With that being said, here are 10 destinations that you could consider for spend your Labor Day weekend fun:

1. Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts:

A summer hotspot, Martha’s Vineyard is an excellent choice to travel to, whether it is for one last hurrah before the school year starts again or just in general for the long weekend. The affluent and picturesque island offers charming and peaceful vibes. There are a plethora of options to choose from for deciding where to stay, from renting cottages and/or houses by the beautiful beaches or staying at one of the island’s nicest hotels or boutique hotels (Winnetu Oceanside Resort and The Christopher are amongst the best hotels at the Vineyard). While at the Vineyard, enjoy their local cuisine and shops. 2. Lake Tahoe, California:

A popular pastime during federal holidays, such as Labor Day Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend is to head up to a  small town with a big lake. One of the most popular places for this type of trip is in Lake Tahoe, California. Tahoe offers many different water activities; taking the boats out on the lake, swimming, paddling boating, inner tubing, and riding jet skis, to name a few. If you want to escape the city life for a couple of days, renting a house or cottage at Lake Tahoe for Labor Day Weekend is your best option!!

3. Charleston, South Carolina:

This city offers a lot more besides its’ Southern charm and hospitality. Charleston offers some of the prettiest beaches in the region as well as sunset cruises around the harbor.  The city has several farmers markets that offer the freshest produce. As an extra bonus, the annual Greater Charleston Low Country Jazz Festival will take place on Septemeber 1.

4. Sonoma, California:

Located in Northern California (about an hour drive from San Francisco), the city in the wine country region of the state offers beautiful scenery as a perfect escape from the city. During the holiday, the city is hosting several events, the most notable one being Wine Country Weekend. Visitors can try samples from over 200 wineries and chefs at The Taste of Sonoma. This is the place for you if you love wine and food.

5. Aspen, Colorado:

Although it is not winter or ski season yet, Aspen is still a beautiful place to visit during the summer. Besides exploring the area’s mountains, things to do include kayaking and rafting down The Fork River, trying the local cuisine, and taking a hot air balloon ride up to The Elk Mountains. Aspen also attracts tourists during the three day weekend for two major events: The 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival (On September 3rd) and Jazz Open Snowmass, a two-day music festival (August 30th-September 1st) with this year’s lineup including Sting, John Mayer, and Luke Combs. 

6. The Bahamas:

One of only two international destinations to make this list, the Bahamas is the best destination for one last quick tropical getaway. With over 700 islands and cays, Nassau and Paradise Island are among the best areas to stay at while visiting the Bahamas. The Ocean Club and The Cove at Atlantis are the best hotels to stay at. Be sure to hit the beach, sample the island’s restaurants, and shop during your visit.

7. New York City:

The most populated city in the United States is usually crowded year round with tourists from all over the world coming to visit The Big Apple. However, come Labor Day Weekend, the city is less crowded and allows more time to actually enjoy and explore around the city. Another perk of visiting the Big Apple over the holiday is the cooler temperatures. Major events occurring over the holiday include the US Open, the Electric Zoo Music Festival, and the Quirky Festival (a unicycle festival).

8. San Diego, California:

Need a break from the fast-paced lifestyle of Los Angeles? San Diego offers peaceful-like vibes and beautiful beaches that attract many visitors. Along with attending a Padres Game or going to SeaWorld, the city is also hosting several events during the long weekend, including The US Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition (August 31st-September 2nd) and Big Social Euro (September 1st), a European Car Show.

9. Cancun, Mexico:

The other international destination to make the list, Cancun, along with The Bahamas (See #6 Above), is the place to go for some sun and a little tropical getaway. The city is one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations with a plethora of things to do and places to explore. Key attractions include taking a day trip to nearby Tulum, shopping in Downtown Cancun and the Hotel Zone, and exploring the Cenotes. Going out at night to the local bars and clubs is a must as well.

10. New Orleans, Louisiana:

It is not Mardi Gras yet, but it is always party-season down south in New Orleans! With fabulous cuisine, diverse culture, amazing nightlife, and world-class music, there are plenty of things to see and do when you go. Stop by the famous Cafe Du Monde for the best beignets you will ever eat in your life and try some jambalaya!! During Labor Day weekend, there will be plenty of parties and parades going on. The annual Southern Decadence event attracts people from around the world during the holiday, as the event is a celebration of LBGTQ Culture.
