10 Best Places To Cry At University of Tampa When You Just Can’t Anymore

Every college co-ed loves a good cry. It’s a release that we all need sometimes, and there’s no shame in letting out all that pent up stress and emotion when things begin to overwhelm you. It can be hard when you’re away from home to find a place on campus where you feel safe enough to be yourself. That’s why I have compiled this handy list of my best places to cry at University of Tampa.

1. The riverfront

It isn’t just a picturesque place to layout in between classes. It is a hidden oasis for those who need to get away from the center of campus momentarily and have some time to themselves. Whatever you need to do: reconnect with nature, cry, scream, laugh, nap. The park is a safe haven for students on this urban campus. It would be a mistake not to take advantage of it.

2. Sykes Chapel

Perhaps you’re looking for a more religious experience? The Sykes Chapel, located in the heart of campus, is a beautiful building inside and out. Even non-denominational students can appreciate the serenity of this landmark. The garden located in back of the Chapel also provides a semi-private park for those looking to pray or cry uninterrupted.

3. Your car

If you’re lucky enough to have a car on campus, that is one of the best places to cry at University of Tampa. Use it for all its glory! Who cares if anyone sees you sobbing into the steering wheel? Honestly, haven’t we all been there a time or two? Once you’re done, you can crank Beyoncé and peel out of the parking lot.

4. The shower

Maybe you’re having a hard time adjusting or are feeling a bit homesick. Perhaps you’ve been away at school for years, but you had a particularly hard day at your internship or your roommate is being a b*tch about the utilities. Whatever your woes, just know it will all work itself out in the morning. For now, go ahead and have yourself that cry you’ve been burying all day. Pour a glass of wine, light an aromatherapy candle, climb into the scalding hot shower and just let ‘er rip.

5. The MacDonald Kelce Library

When you’ve been living in the library during finals week with your head crammed in your Chemistry book and you just can’t balance another equation without bursting into tears- might I suggest the private study rooms upstairs? They are a great place to cry it out. They’re secluded and no one will judge you because everyone else will be crying too! Caveat: You do have to reserve these rooms, and they are first-come-first-serve.

6. Study rooms

If you can’t manage to snag one of the library’s coveted spots, fear not. The are alternative best places to cry at University of Tampa. There are two study rooms located inside the Vaughn computer lab that are bigger and brighter. I’m not sure if you have to reserve these during exams, but usually they are open to whomever comes first. These are the perfect places for a good cry because they are isolated and not claustrophobic in the least. Plus, if you snag the one overlooking the Sykes Business building you have a nice view of campus, which might just make you feel a bit better.

7. Plant Hall

There is a window seat overlooking an old fire escape on the third floor of Plant Hall. Most UT students will tell you that Plant, with its lack of efficient air conditioning, miniscule L-shaped desks, and spotty WiFi connection, is their least favorite building on campus to have a class in. However, I discovered this little corner one day while I was waiting for my professor’s office hours. It was raining and the atmosphere here with the light streaming through helped calm my nerves. Since Plant is such a big part of campus I’m sure there are plenty of hidden corners for when you’re in search of best places to cry at University of Tampa.

8. Starbucks

Starbucks is a staple at UT. You will no doubt spend hours there and will inevitably find yourself with tears welling up in your eyes while you’re sipping your caramel macchiato stressing over midterms. While the study rooms here provide seclusion, they are hard to come by and the desks in the back are not exactly obscure. Upstairs is a very intimate environment so unless you don’t mind crying in front of everyone, I suggest relocating outdoors. The noise from the fountains will distract bystanders and the fireplace is quite soothing.

9. The dark rooms in the Bailey Art Studio

These are the definition of best places to cry at University of Tampa. First of all, they are the size of a broom closet and painted all black, so they are very peaceful. However, if you’re claustrophobic I wouldn’t go in there, they may induce tears. They also lock from the inside if you really want to be left alone. It’s supposed to ensure that no one comes in while you’re rolling your light-sensitive film, but it works for crying, too. They’re open to photography students outside of class time during open lab hours.

10. The Pool

No one should be sad when sunbathing, but sometimes you can’t control when your emotions bubble up. If you find yourself needing to let loose, just take a deep breath and go underwater for a moment or two. Everyone will assume your red eyes are due to the chlorine!

Tampa may have the biggest campus, but there are plenty of places for you to get emotional when you need to. Trust me, you will have your moments, we all do! There’s no shame in it, but sometimes it’s nice to know you have a private place to ugly cry when you just can’t anymore.
