Best Organization Tips For College Students

Are you a college student struggling to stay organized on a daily basis? I’ve put together the nine best organization tips to help you get your life together and be motivated to stay organized. Let’s jump right in!

1. Get A Planner

If I have one piece of advice for staying organized in college, it’s investing in a nice planner that you know you will use every day. Planning out your day, week, or month is so important to stay on track. Believe me, I’ve been there. When your life is written out neatly in a cute planner, it gets you excited for the upcoming days, instead of dreading them. My anxiety is ten times worse when my thoughts and to-dos are just floating in my brain.

2. Keep Your Desk Tidy

Having a tidy environment can be super beneficial to getting stuff done. If your desk is a complete disaster, how are you going to find or accomplish anything? Your surroundings also significantly impact your mental state, so if you just take 5-10 minutes to tidy up your desk, you would be much happier. So, get rid of that clutter, those random coupons you’ll never use, and you will be on your way to being more organized.

3. Make Your Notes Pretty

Making your notes actually legible is so simple and helpful in the long-run. If your professors talk at lighting speed and it’s nearly impossible to get everything on paper, listen up. You might need to make your notes messy at first for the sake of time, and that’s okay. But when you get back to your dorm, try to rewrite the most important information and do it as neatly as possible. You can use different colored gel pens and even draw pictures if it helps you retain information. When you go to study for the exam, you will be so happy you took the time to do this.

4. Make Lists

I think I may be addicted to list making. No seriously. I guess there could be worse things to be addicted to. Anyways, making lists is one of the best ways to get stuff done, stay on deadline and be an overall less stressed person. What’s not to love? I probably make at least one list a day so I never forget what needs to get done, and what I’ve already accomplished. One of the most satisfying feelings is when you check everything off your to-do list. Organization at it’s finest!

5. Find A Study Buddy

Studying with a friend is so much better than studying alone. You can quiz each other and keep each other accountable if you are struggling with a topic. Pick someone you know you can focus with and won’t end up giggling and gossiping with the whole time. This is also a great way to make a new friend in one of your classes. Introduce yourself to the person sitting next to you and ask if they would like to study sometime.

6. Time Management

When you have too much on your plate, life can get overwhelming. Make sure you aren’t taking on too much so that your time is compromised. Allot a certain number of hours a day to studying, homework and working out. Then, set aside time for your social life, friends and/or family. Don’t forget you have to sleep too! It’s best to get at least 8 hours of sleep, so try going to bed at or before 11 and get up earlier than normal. Establishing a good sleep schedule is important to effectively using your time.

7. Organization Tips: Relax

When we get so caught up in trying to stay organized and achieve our goals, sometimes we forget to take time for ourselves. It’s important to let yourself relax and unwind, because you deserve it! Take a nice hot bubble bath, light some candles, and read a book. Do whatever makes you feel relaxed, whether that’s doing yoga, meditating, or just going on a walk. If we get too wrapped up in the stress of daily life, we miss out on beautiful moments. It’s all about balance.

I hope you found these college organization tips helpful, and are excited to get your life together. Be sure to comment your favorite tips below. Happy organizing!
